Job summary

Optical Cable Corporation is seeking an experienced 1.5” Extruder Operator for weekend shifts in Roanoke, VA. The role runs Friday through Sunday with some schedule flexibility and overtime opportunities. You will monitor, adjust, and quality-check extrusion lines and perform setup according to job requirements.

The position requires a high school diploma or GED and basic mechanical skills. We offer competitive hourly pay ($17.30–$31.05) plus a 10% shift differential for night and weekend work,

• Clean equipment to prevent contamination as required.

1.5” Extruder Operator – Weekends

6:00 AM – 6:00 PM Friday – Sunday with some schedule flexibility required; overtime is also available. This role works primarily on weekends while an additional shift differential applies for night and weekend shifts.

Responsibilities

• Read the set‑up sheet and use the file name to determine product, print specifications, machine adjustments, material requirements, and any special customer requirements.
• Set up, run, and continuously monitor the 1” ½” extrusion line for all standard products.
• Observe, measure, and inspect products at various stages of production to ensure compliance with set‑up sheet specifications.
• Apply print to cables using jet printers as required.
• Complete all job‑specific documentation accurately.
• Clean equipment to prevent contamination as required.
• Identify defects and problems during production, assist in solving them, or notify a supervisor when necessary; complete non‑conformity paperwork for all defects.
• Conduct all activities in accordance with safety procedures and guidelines.

Working Conditions

Employees regularly stand, walk, and lift or move up to 50 lbs. Vision corrected to 20/20 and good color vision are required. Normal hearing is required. Exposure to moving mechanical parts, fumes, airborne particles, and chemicals is common. Compensation & Benefits

Base salary: $17.30 – $31.05 per hour. Shift differential: 10% additional for eligible night and weekend shifts.
