Optical Cable Corporation in Roanoke, VA seeks a 1 ¼” Extruder Operator to set up, run, and monitor extrusion lines for fiber optic cable production. You will read setup sheets, adjust machines, and ensure products meet specifications while maintaining accurate documentation.
The role requires a high school diploma or GED with at least six months of related experience, strong mechanical skills, and the ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
6 AM – 6 PM Monday – Thursday
Sets up, runs, and monitors 1 ¼” extrusion equipment used for the manufacture of fiber optic cable by performing the following job responsibilities.
Performs specific job responsibilities:

Education & Experience: High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and six months of related experience and/or training preferred.
Essential Skills, Abilities & Knowledge: Mechanical aptitude with the ability to run a machine in a production environment. Demonstrated ability to use tools and measuring devices properly. Ability to read and follow basic instructions. Ability to understand and implement quality procedures. Math and handwriting skills required and the ability to correctly complete all documentation. Ability to work in a team environment with minimal supervision. Pays close attention to detail with the ability to complete assignments accurately and recognize and help resolve problems.
Working Conditions: While performing this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and walk. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 lbs. This job requires a sighted individual (i.e., vision corrected to 20/20) for significant reading and computer usage. Specific vision abilities required by this job include color vision. This work also requires an individual with normal hearing (i.e., hearing corrected to normal ranges). The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, and toxic or caustic chemicals. $17.00 – $30.53
Eligible night and weekend shifts receive an additional 10% shift differential.

The posted pay range reflects the established base salary or hourly wage range for this position. Individual compensation is determined based on qualifications, experience, skills, internal equity, and business needs. New hires are typically hired below the midpoint of the range. Eligible positions may receive applicable shift differentials, skill premiums, or other forms of additional compensation.
