Job summary

Olympic Steel in Houston is seeking a Machine Operator to safely set up and operate leveling, sheeting, and console equipment to produce flat metal sheets that meet customer specifications. You will work from customer orders, engineered layouts, and general instructions to maintain productivity and quality.

This role emphasizes safety, reliability and attention to detail. We value candidates with a high school diploma or GED, mechanical aptitude, basic math, and comfort using computer programs;

Qualifications

• High School or GED equivalent is preferred.
• Mechanically inclined with a safety and quality mindset.
• General knowledge of crane operation and lifting devices is beneficial.
• Basic math skills for measurements and readings.
• Self-motivated with ability to work under supervision.
• Detail-oriented with ability to inspect material for quality conformance.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate leveling, sheeting and console equipment to level length and stack flat sheets per customer requirements.
• Work from customer orders, engineered layouts and general instructions to meet production targets.

The Machine Operator safely performs position-specific responsibilities in line with Olympic Steel's Core Values to ensure the highest level of productivity and quality while adhering to all relevant company policies and procedures. Sets up and operates automatic leveling, sheeting, console-operated equipment to level length and stack weigh flat sheets of various gauges of material to customer requirements. Work from customer orders, engineered layouts, and general instructions.

Qualifications

• High School or GED equivalent preferred.
• Mechanically inclined, production-oriented and safety and quality conscious.
• General knowledge of crane operation and ancillary lifting devices.
• Basic math skills.
• Self-motivated with the ability to work under general supervision.
• Detail-oriented with the ability to inspect material for quality conformance through the use of measuring devices and drawings.
• Functional literacy.
• Working knowledge of general computer programs preferred.
• Previous experience with precision instruments preferred.
