Job summary

Optical Cable Corporation in Roanoke, VA is seeking a 1 ¼” Extruder Operator for the NIGHT shift (6:00 p.m. – 6:00 a.m., Monday–Thursday, with schedule flexibility).

You will set up, run and monitor the extrusion line to manufacture fiber optic cable per specifications. Responsibilities include reading setup sheets, adjusting equipment, inspecting products, completing documentation, maintaining safety, and supporting continuous improvement.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED with six months related experience preferred.
• Mechanical aptitude and ability to read and follow instructions are essential.
• Ability to use measuring devices and document results accurately.

Responsibilities

• Read setup sheet and determine product, machine adjustments, and material requirements.
• Set up, run, and continuously monitor the 1 ¼” extrusion line for all products.
• Observe, measure, and inspect products to ensure compliance with specifications.
• Accurately complete all documentation specific to this job function.
• Clean equipment to prevent contamination as required.
• Identify defects and problems; assist in solving or notify supervisor; file non-conformity paperwork.
• Perform all activities following safety procedures and guidelines.

1 ¼” Extruder Operator – NIGHTS

6:00 p.m. – 6:00 a.m. Monday – Thursday with some schedule flexibility required; overtime is also available.

Summary

Sets up, runs, and monitors 1 ¼” extrusion equipment used for the manufacture of fiber optic cable by performing the following job responsibilities.

Significant Responsibilities

• Reads the set-up sheet and utilizes the file name to determine the product to be manufactured, machine adjustments, and material requirements.
• Sets up, runs, and continuously monitors the 1 ¼” extrusion line for all products.
• Observes, measures, and inspects products at various stages of the production process to ensure the product is being produced per proper set-up sheet specifications.
• Accurately completes all documentation specific to this job function.
• Cleans equipment to prevent contamination as required.
• Recognizes various defects and problems that arise during production. Assists in solving problems or notifies supervisor if required. Completes non-conformity paperwork for all defects and problems in products.
• Conducts all activities in accordance with safety procedures and guidelines.

Minimum Qualifications Required

Education & Experience: High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and six months of related experience and/or training preferred.

Essential Skills, Abilities & Knowledge:

Mechanical aptitude with the ability to run a machine in a production environment. Demonstrated ability to use tools and measuring devices properly. Ability to read and follow basic instructions. Ability to understand and implement quality procedures. Math and handwriting skills required and the ability to correctly complete all documentation. Ability to work in a team environment with minimal supervision. Pays close attention to detail with the ability to complete assignments accurately and recognize and help resolve problems.

Working Conditions:

While performing this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and walk. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 lbs. This job requires a sighted individual (i.e., vision corrected to 20/20) for significant reading and computer usage. Specific vision abilities required by this job include color vision. This work also requires an individual with normal hearing (i.e., hearing corrected to normal ranges). The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, and toxic or caustic chemicals. Compensation

$17.00 - $24.43

Shift Differential

Eligible night and weekend shifts receive an additional 10% shift differential.

The posted pay range reflects the established base salary or hourly wage range for this position. Individual compensation is determined based on qualifications, experience, skills, internal equity, and business needs. New hires are typically hired below the midpoint of the range. Eligible positions may receive applicable shift differentials, skill premiums, or other forms of additional compensation.
