Job summary

Optical Cable Corporation is seeking an 1.5” Extruder Operator for the night shift to set up, run, and monitor extrusion equipment. The role requires you to read set-up sheets, adjust machines, inspect outputs, and document processes, with attention to safety and quality. Overtime and shift differential may apply.

Responsibilities include applying print to cables, ensuring specifications, and maintaining clean equipment while adhering to company standards and procedures.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED with six months of related experience preferred.
  • Mechanical aptitude with the ability to operate a machine in a production environment.
  • Ability to read and follow basic instructions and use measuring devices.
  • Ability to understand and implement quality procedures; math and handwriting skills required.
  • Able to work in a team environment with minimal supervision; attention to detail.

  • Recognizes defects and problems; assists in solving or notifies supervisor; completes non-conformity paperwork.

1.5” Extruder Operator NIGHTS

6:00 PM – 6:00 AM Monday – Thursday with some schedule flexibility required; overtime is also available.

Basic Function: Sets up, runs, and monitors 1 ½” extrusion equipment used for the manufacture of fiber optic cable by performing the following job responsibilities.

Significant Responsibilities
  • Reads the set-up sheet and utilizes the file name to determine the product to be manufactured, print specifications, machine adjustments, material requirements, and/or special customer requirements.
  • Sets up, runs, and continuously monitors the 1 ½” extrusion line for all standard products.
  • Observes, measures, and inspects products at various stages of the production process to ensure the product is being produced per proper set-up sheet specifications.
  • Applies print to cables using jet printers as required.
  • Correctly completes all documentation specific to this job function.
  • Cleans equipment to prevent contamination as required.
  • Recognizes various defects and problems that arise during production. Assists in solving problems or notifies supervisor if required. Completes non-conformity paperwork for all defects and problems in products.
  • Conducts all activities following safety procedures and guidelines.

Minimum Qualifications Required

Education & Experience: High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and six months of related experience and/or training preferred.

Essential Skills, Abilities & Knowledge: Mechanical aptitude with the ability to operate a machine in a production environment. Demonstrated ability to use tools and measuring devices properly. Ability to read and follow basic instructions. Ability to understand and implement quality procedures. Math and handwriting skills required and the ability to correctly complete all documentation. Ability to work in a team environment with minimal supervision. Pays close attention to detail with the ability to complete assignments accurately and recognize and help resolve problems.

Working Conditions: While performing the job, the employee is regularly required to stand and walk. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. This job requires sight sufficient for significant reading and computer use. Specific vision abilities required by this job include color vision. This work also requires an individual with hearing sufficient for detection of alarms and communication with coworkers. The noise level in the work environment is moderate. The employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes, or airborne particles – appropriate individual safety devices are provided for proper handling. Compensation: $17.30 – $31.05

Shift Differential: Eligible night and weekend shifts receive an additional 10% shift differential.

Additional Compensation Information: The posted pay range reflects the established base salary or hourly wage range for this position. Individual compensation is determined based on qualifications, experience, skills, internal equity, and business needs. New hires are typically hired below the midpoint of the range. Eligible positions may receive applicable shift differentials, skill premiums, or other forms of additional compensation.
