Optical Cable Corporation in Roanoke, VA is seeking a 3” Extruder Operator to work weekends, 6:00 am – 6:00 pm Friday to Sunday. The role involves setting up and monitoring extrusion equipment for fiber optic cable production. Sets up, runs, and monitors 3” extrusion equipment used for the manufacture of fiber optic cable.

Mechanical aptitude with ability to review specifications, set up, run, and monitor a machine in a production environment. Demonstrated ability to use tools and measuring devices properly. Ability to read and follow basic instructions. Ability to understand and implement quality procedures. Math and documentation skills required and ability to correctly complete all documentation. Ability to work in a team environment with minimal supervision. Pay close attention to detail with ability to complete assignments accurately and recognize and help resolve problems. Ability to organize, complete tasks, and manage time. Ability to type and use a keyboard to operate in Syspro ERP System.
While performing the job, the employee is regularly required to stand and walk, lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and engage in computer use. The employee must have sufficient vision for reading and computer use, color vision, and hearing adequate for detecting alarms and communicating with coworkers. The noise level is moderate. The employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes, or airborne particles – appropriate safety devices are provided. $17.90 – $32.09 per hour.
Eligible night and weekend shifts receive an additional 10 % shift differential.

The posted pay range reflects the established base salary or hourly wage range for this position. Individual compensation is determined based on qualifications, experience, skills, internal equity, and business needs. New hires are typically hired below the midpoint of the range.
