Job summary

Astronics-PECO in Clackamas, Oregon, seeks a Die Cast Operator to cast quality parts on high‑pressure die casting machines (Idra, LK). The shift is Monday–Friday from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM, with responsibilities including setup, operation, and basic maintenance of casting equipment.

The ideal candidate has a high school diploma, die casting experience or related training, and strong mechanical aptitude. Safety and quality training will be provided; lifting up to 50 pounds and a loud environment are

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Previous die casting experience and/or training preferred.
  • Experience working with machines, tools and heavy equipment.
  • Mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to perform basic math computations and read measurements.

Responsibilities

  • Set up casting machines (Idra, LK) and load materials.
  • Operate and maintain casting machines to produce quality parts.
  • Refill metals, oils and lubricants; monitor process variables.
  • Operate secondary equipment (drill press, trim press, milling).
  • Document counts and quality observations on parts.
  • Use calipers/micrometers to inspect parts; report issues.
  • Adhere to safety and quality standards; participate in training.
  • Move materials using forklifts and keep work area clean.
  • Attend required quality/manual standards training.
  • Report any machine or part problems promptly to lead.

Machine Operator - Die Cast Trainee

Astronics-PECO, located in Clackamas, Oregon, designs and manufactures highly engineered commercial aerospace interior components and systems for the aerospace industry. We specialize in Passenger Service Units (PSUs) which incorporate air handling, emergency oxygen, electrical power management and cabin lighting systems. We also manufacture a wide range of fuel tank access doors that meet stringent strength, fuel sealing and anti-corrosion requirements.

We are looking for a Die Cast Operator to join our team. This role will be required to cast quality parts using high pressure die casting machines. The shift for this role is Monday-Friday from 7am to 3:30pm.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Setup casting machines (Idra, LK)

  • Service casting machines by refilling metal, oils, and spray lubes.

  • Operate secondary equipment, drill press; trim press and milling machines.

  • Operate and maintain casting machine to make quality parts.

  • Observes quality. Reports all part or die or machine problems promptly to lead person

  • Maintain process control with furnace temperature, machine fluids and spray ratio

  • Complete paperwork documenting accurate counts of all parts.

  • Use measuring tools such as micrometers and calipers

  • Attends Quality Manual Standards Training and applies Quality Standards accordingly

  • Observes safety and security procedures; Reports potentially unsafe conditions; Uses equipment and materials properly

  • Operate a variety of forklifts and other material moving equipment and tools

  • Sweep and clean work area and casting machines

  • Reports consistently to work and is on time. Able to work an eight-hour shift and over time as needed

Desired Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • High school diploma or equivalent, preferred

  • Previous die casting experience and/or training, preferred

  • Experience working with machines, tools and heavy equipment

  • Mechanical aptitude

  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of situations where standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form

  • Ability to perform basic math computations such as add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals

The employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, extreme heat and electrical shock. The noise level is usually loud. Proper footwear, clothing, safety glasses and hearing protection are required.
