Job summary

Astronics-PECO, located in Clackamas, Oregon, seeks a Mechanical Engineer to design mechanical and electromechanical systems using CAD with emphasis on manufacturability and reliability. The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering (1–5 years) and strong CAD skills (SolidWorks), plus familiarity with GD&T, FEA/CFD, and DOE methods,

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent; 1–5 years of related experience required
  • Competency with CAD applications; SolidWorks preferred
  • Familiarity with GD&T and tolerance analysis methods
  • Desirable knowledge of FEA/CFD and thermal analysis
  • Experience with DOE methods (Minitab, JMP, Design-Expert)
  • Understanding of Statistical Process Control (SPC) is a plus
  • Ability to read and interpret technical documents and regulations
  • Strong math, geometry, and analytical problem-solving skills
  • Proficient with MS Office and manufacturing concepts
  • Knowledge of lightweight metals/plastics design and high-volume manufacturing

Job description

Astronics-PECO, located in picturesque Clackamas, Oregon near the foothills of Mt. Hood, designs, certifies, manufactures, and sells a wide range of products to commercial, government, and military markets throughout the world. Our highly engineered interior and structural aerospace products are supplied to the largest aircraft manufacturers and are installed in aircraft around the globe, and our military products are used in critical national defense applications. The Max-Viz enhanced visions systems (EVS) are designed and certified for use as an improvement to safety by a vast array of airplanes, helicopters, and unmanned-aerial-vehicles in the commercial, government, and military marketplace. PECO-Controls are well established temperature control devices designed for applications where high quality is a must, such as the hospitality industry, commercial cooking, and other critical applications.

In support of our growth, we are seeking to add a Mechanical Engineer to our team. This position will perform technical design projects for existing products. This member of the team will be supporting highly productive product lines and will be looking to improve efficiency and reduce cost through design improvements. The ideal candidate will have fluency with 3D CAD software, a strong background with structured product development processes, good people skills, and familiarity with designing components made of plastics and metals.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Providemechanical or electromechanical design using computer aided design software
  • Designmechanical components and assemblies with an emphasis on manufacturability, reliability, and maintainability
  • Research, design, develop, and test a variety of mechanical and electromechanical equipment and systems
  • Perform engineering calculations to determine the size and strength of components and solve design problems and check computations contributing to analytical designs.
  • Applyapplicable national standards in the design and testing of products and subassemblies
  • Generateengineering test reports
  • ApplyQuality Standards
  • Observesafety and security procedures; reports potentially unsafe conditions and uses equipment and materials properly
Desired Training, Skills, and Experience:
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent. 1-5years of related experience OR an equivalentcombination of training and educationis Required
  • Demonstrated competency with CAD applications; SolidWorks preferred
  • Working knowledge of GD&T and mechanical tolerance analysis methods
  • Functionally proficient in use and application of numerical simulation methods (particularly Finite Element Analysis and/or CFD/Thermal analysis) is desirable
  • Working proficiency using Design of Experiments techniques/applications (Minitab, JMP, or Design-Expert)
  • Knowledge of Statistical Process Control methodology and applications a plus
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or government regulations
  • Ability to write professional reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, employees, and the general public
  • Demonstrated ability to workmathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry
  • Ability to express and manipulate constraints and relationships symbolically. Ability to develop numerical solutions to complex equations
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual should have strong computer skills including proficiency with MS Office applications.
  • Strong understanding of high-volume manufacturing
  • Knowledge of engineering tools such as FMEAs, FEA, and DFMA to validate design content
  • Experience in evaluating structural acceptability of designs by testing prototypes for reliability and FAA certification is desirable, preferred
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures, or government regulations. Working knowledge of 14 CFR Part 25 Airworthiness Standards is desirable
  • AS9100 standards and document control experience desirable
