Job summary

Astronics-PECO in Clackamas, Oregon, seeks a Manufacturing Engineer to optimize finishing operations, improve quality, and boost process efficiency across coating and finishing cells for aerospace applications. You will develop BOMs, support design feasibility, and drive continuous improvement in a fast-paced team.

The role requires a Bachelor’s degree in a related field and 2+ years of experience, with knowledge of paints, chromates, masking, and Lean methodologies.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related field with two or more years of related experience and/or training.
  • Working knowledge of Paint, Chromate, and/or masking.
  • Ability to perform problem analysis and problem resolution.
  • Knowledgeable of Kaizen and Lean manufacturing techniques.
  • Possess strong computer skills in Microsoft Office programs.
  • Skilled at statistical analysis of manufacturing process data.
  • Aerospace knowledge is strongly desired.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively, make presentations, and write concise reports for all levels of employees.
  • Planning and ability to think ahead and plan over a 3-6 month time span.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze and optimize finishing area processes to enhance efficiency, reduce cycle times, minimize waste, and improve quality.
  • Determine and implement best practices and self-directed continuous improvement initiatives to achieve optimal production output.
  • Supports Operations personnel through problem-solving and by removing production obstacles.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of processes, troubleshooting procedures, and improvements.
  • Accurately develops and maintains bills of materials and manufacturing plans.
  • Collaborate with the product design and development teams to provide input on manufacturability and feasibility during the early stages of new product development.
  • Perform design and product development activities, including fixtures, for implementation of customer specifications and documentation requirements.
  • Investigate emerging technologies, identify new product opportunities, and establish parameters for product direction/design.
  • Lead activities across functional groups and departments to support on time delivery, quality requirements, and continuous improvement activities.
  • Work with Supply Chain, Planning and Operations to ensure that the ERP system has appropriate lead-times and costs, assuring proper stock levels.
  • Attend Quality Manual Standards Training and apply Quality Standards accordingly.

Astronics-PECO, located in picturesque Clackamas, Oregon near the foothills of Mt. Hood, designs, certifies, manufactures, and sells a wide range of products to commercial, government, and military markets throughout the world. Our highly engineered interior and structural aerospace products are supplied to the largest aircraft manufacturers and are installed in aircraft around the globe, and our military products are used in critical national defense applications. The Max-Viz enhanced visions systems (EVS) are designed and certified for use as an improvement to safety by a vast array of airplanes, helicopters, and unmanned-aerial-vehicles in the commercial, government, and military marketplace. PECO-Controls are well established temperature control devices designed for applications where high quality is a must, such as the hospitality industry, commercial cooking, and other critical applications.

As aManufacturing Engineer with our team, you will play a crucial role in optimizing our finishing operations. You will be responsible for ensuring the highest quality standards, improving process efficiency, and driving innovation within the coatings and finishings departments. We have multiple work cells that include conversion coating, masking, and painting application for predominantly aerospace and military applications.
