Job summary

Amcor in Sterling, MA, is seeking a production operator to run an extrusion line, perform changeovers, and troubleshoot equipment to ensure quality products.

The role requires strict safety adherence, ability to read and follow English instructions, and collaboration with team members to meet production targets. Overtime and weekend shifts are possible in a rotating 12-hour schedule.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • 1+ years manufacturing experience.
  • 1 year extrusion operator experience preferred.
  • Able to read/write English to complete forms and verify quality.
  • Must have good vision, eye–hand coordination, and hearing.

Responsibilities

  • Observe and follow safety and environmental rules.
  • Perform changeovers and complete setup forms.
  • Set up secondary equipment and test functionality.
  • Maintain product quality and monitor production rates.
  • Complete production paperwork and scrap tracking.
  • Contribute to maintenance reports when needed.
  • Relieve teammates for breaks and perform related duties.

Job Description

The starting rate of pay for this position is expected to be $19.78; however, starting pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills and experience between $19.78 and $22.00.

SHIFT

Rotating (3 days work/4 days off & 4 days work/3 days off - work every other weekend) 12-hour shift 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Summary

Efficient extruder operation through set up, runs and troubleshooting machinery that ensures a quality product which meets or exceeds internal quality and customer standards.

Essential Job Functions
  • Observe, follow and support all safety and environmental rules/procedures/policies
  • Perform changeovers and completes changeover setup form
  • Arrange assistance for changeover
  • Cleans blenders and other equipment for material changes
  • Oversee pre-blend and the blending or mixing of resins in off-line as well as on-line
  • Complete paperwork for production, including labor log, scrap sheet and daily functional check sheet
  • Set all secondary equipment (printer, punches, venting, portable winders, etc.) and test functionality to assure proper set-up and operation
  • Watch for and react to stack light alerts
  • Make machine adjustments as needed to maintain required product quality and/or as identified by Packer/Inspector
  • Identify equipment shortfalls and complete maintenance report forms as needed
  • Close order in system when completed
  • Identify and strive to meet expected rates or standards of production and notes correct variance code in system
  • Collect, weigh, and document all scrap and enter in system
  • Ensure REPRO is being run/added to resin
  • Adjust and/or correct Bill of Materials (BOM)
  • Perform and document 2-hour quality checks
  • Relieve other team members for breaks/lunches
  • Perform other related functions and duties as may be assigned
Secondary Job Functions
  • Check run rates
  • Perform quality checks front to back (resins, silos, computer information, blender settings, etc.)
  • Ensure tools are in proper location(s)
  • Ensure axillary equipment is in working condition (press, vents V-board, etc.)
  • Ensure ink/solvent room is in proper order
  • Perform all duties of a Utility Operator
  • Maintains housekeeping throughout production area(s) including, but not limited to cleaning around extruders and blenders
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • 1 or more yrs experience in a manufacturing environment
  • 1 yr extrusion operator experience (preferred)
  • Able to read and follow written/verbal instructions (English)
  • Able to read and write (English) to complete required forms and verify quality products are produced
  • Must have good vision, eye-hand coordination, and hearing
Physical And Work Environment Requirements
  • Able to work overtime, holidays, weekends, days, or nights for 12 or more hours
  • Able to work independently and in a team
  • Basic math skills
  • Able to read a ruler/tape measure/gauge caliper device(s) to 1/8 of an inch
  • Able to stand, sit, kneel, bend, stoop, climb, reach, and crawl for extended periods multiple times per day
  • Able to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted
  • No fear of heights
  • Must have manual dexterity involving total wrist action, twisting, pulling, and raising arms at or above shoulder height
  • Must have good vision, eye-hand coordination and hearing
  • Able to work in warm, humid, and cool climates for 12 or more hours per day or night
  • Able to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) which includes safety glasses, safety goggles, hearing protection, steel toe shoes/boots, face shield, gloves, fire retardant jacket/apron and face mask
