Job Title: Machine Operator - Contingent Worker
Talascend is currently seeking a Machine Operator - Contingent Worker in Allentown, PA.
Essential Responsibilities
If assigned to EDM/CNC:
- Set-up and operate CNC and/or EDM machines to perform machining operations, including fast hole drilling and graphite shaping on metal castings, forgings, and bar stock, according to specifications and set-up instructions.
- Study work instructions and set-up instructions to determine machining required, dimensional specifications, work procedures, and methods.
- Determine tool lengths, maintain tool change list, and program measuring adjustments.
- Install work holding devices such as blocks and tooling on the machine table using hand tools.
- Lift and position work pieces on the machine table or in holding devices.
- Select and install tooling, and place electrodes in automatic-tool-changer if required.
- Observe control panel displays and verify against process sheet data to ensure proper adjustments.
- Inspect first-run pieces, record dimensions, and ensure conformance to specifications.
- Notify supervisor of non-conforming first pieces or machine malfunctions.
- Deburr all pieces per specifications and good machining practices.
- Troubleshoot production issues, machine, and quality problems.
- Maintain tools and measuring instruments.
- Ensure compliance with company production and quality standards.
- Report unusual problems or conditions to supervisor.
- Follow safety rules and regulations.
- Perform other similar duties as assigned.
If assigned to ECM:
- Observe safety rules and regulations.
- Set-up and operate electro-chemical machines to cut metal work pieces to specifications.
- Examine operation sheets and plan machine operations.
- Dress electrodes and identify unusable conditions.
- Position and secure work pieces, perform minor adjustments for concentricity, alignment, and depth.
- Adjust machine settings such as voltage, current, and electrode feed rate.
- Start and monitor machine operations, making adjustments as necessary.
- Inspect work pieces visually and with measuring instruments, record dimensions.
- Use electronic systems to update status and record quality information.
- Move completed work pieces to appropriate areas.
- Check set-up and electrodes at each shift start.
- Assist and train other operators as needed.
- Maintain tools and instruments.
- Ensure production and quality standards are met.
- Report problems to management.
- Strive to meet or exceed production targets.
- Record time spent on activities daily.
- Perform troubleshooting and other duties as assigned.
Qualifications/Requirements:
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
- Background in machine operation, assembly, or maintenance.
- Comfortable working with tools and following instructions.
Eligibility Requirements:
- Use of technical data subject to U.S. export restrictions; must be U.S. persons.
- Ability to lift/push/pull at least 50 pounds.
- Willingness to wear PPE.
- Willingness to work overtime and weekends.
Desired Characteristics:
- Shop math skills.
- Experience with precision measuring tools.
- Familiarity with shop floor computer tools, basic Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Positive attitude, strong work ethic, self-motivated.
- Strong communication skills.
