Job summary

The University of Washington – Harborview Medical Center in Seattle seeks a Medical Assistant - Certified (MA-C) for a full-time position in our Float Pool. The role supports diverse units across the hospital, ensuring accurate vital signs, injections, and patient flow while maintaining high standards of care.

We offer a 40-hour work week (Mon-Fri, 8:00am-4:30pm) in a day-shift, with a $1.50/hour float pay premium and ample opportunities for career growth in a renowned trauma center recognized

Qualifications

  • Completion of a Medical Assistant course accredited by a national or regional accrediting board or equivalent.
  • Must be Washington State Medical Assistant-Certified or achieve within 6 months of hire.
  • Valid American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider CPR card.

Responsibilities

  • Room patients, take vital signs, and reconcile records.
  • Perform injections.
  • Prepare and clean exam rooms.
  • Submit medication prior authorizations.
  • Recognize symptoms of common medical illnesses and report to provider.
  • Act as a liaison between patient, family and providers.
  • Assist provider with procedures and exams.
  • Perform point of care testing and report abnormal lab values.
  • Assist in transporting patients as required.

Our Float Pool family is dedicated and committed to our patient populations at Harborview. Our staff float to many different units in the hospital and are flexible and adaptable to the ever changing needs of the clinics.

Primary Job Responsibilities
  • Room patients, take vital signs, and reconcile records
  • Perform injections
  • Prepare and clean exam rooms

Requirements
  • Completion of a Medical Assistant course accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) or other recognized regional or national accreditation board OR equivalent
  • Must be Washington State Medical Assistant-Certified or achieve this designation within 6-months of hire. Failure to achieve and/or maintain this designation will result in termination of employment
  • Valid American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider CPR card

Compensation, Benefits and Position Details

Pay Range Minimum: $28.27 hourly

Pay Range Maximum: $40.44 hourly

Other Compensation: Float pay premium - $1.50/hour
