Job summary

Harborview Medical Center, part of UW Medicine, seeks a Medical Assistant - Certified (MA-C) for the Harborview Float Pool. This 40-hour/week daytime role supports multiple units, offering a $1.50/hour float premium and excellent public transit access in Seattle.

Responsibilities include rooming patients, vital signs, injections, room prep, prior authorizations, and assisting providers. Eligibility requires a CAAHEP/ABHES MA program or equivalent and WA MA-C certification within 6 months.

Qualifications

  • Completion of a Medical Assistant program accredited by CAAHEP/ABHES or equivalent.
  • Washington State Medical Assistant-Certified or eligible to obtain within 6 months.
  • Current American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare Providers CPR.

Responsibilities

  • Room patients, take vital signs, and reconcile records.
  • Perform injections.
  • Prepare and clean exam rooms.
  • Submit prior authorizations for medications.
  • Recognize symptoms and report to provider.
  • Act as liaison between patient, family and providers.
  • Assist provider with procedures and medical exams.
  • Perform point-of-care testing and report abnormal laboratory values.
  • Transport patients as required.

Job Description Harborview - Float Pool has an outstanding opportunity for a Medical Assistant - Certified (MA-C).

WORK SCHEDULE Full-time, 100% FTE (40 hours per week) Monday-Friday, 8:00am-4:30pm Day Shift


DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION

Our Float Pool family is dedicated and committed to our patient populations at Harborview. Our staff float to many different units in the hospital and are flexible and adaptable to the ever changing needs of the clinics.

PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Room patients, take vital signs, and reconcile records

  • Perform injections

  • Prepare and clean exam rooms

  • Submit medication prior authorizations

  • Recognize symptoms of common medical illnesses and accurately report to provider

  • Act as a liaison between patient, patient’s family and providers

  • Assist provider with procedures and medical exams

  • Perform point of care testing and report abnormal laboratory values

  • Assist in transporting patients as required


REQUIREMENTS


  • Completion of a Medical Assistant course accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) or other recognized regional or national accreditation board OR equivalent

  • Must be Washington State Medical Assistant-Certified or achieve this designation within 6-months of hire. Failure to achieve and/or maintain this designation will result in termination of employment

  • Valid American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider CPR card
