Job summary

Harborview Medical Center, part of the University of Washington, seeks a Patient Care Coordinator for the Harborview Float Pool. The role supports triage, scheduling, and coordination of pre-admission and post-surgery activities in a busy tertiary care setting.

The position requires a Bachelor’s degree in a medically related field and at least two years of relevant experience, with opportunities for professional growth and a day-shift schedule, Monday–Friday, on-site at Harborview.

Qualifications

  • Two years of experience in a tertiary patient care setting involving interaction with a variety of medical services, contact with patients and families, interaction with physicians, and proficiency in medical terminology.
  • Equivalent education and/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification, and/or registration

Responsibilities

  • Triage medical information in a specific medical or surgical specialty
  • Schedule post-surgery diagnostic procedures and follow-up patient appointments
  • Act as a liaison between patients, consulting physician, referring physician, or outside agency to coordinate patient appointments, admission, or surgery. Will coordinate the exchange of information either written or verbally before and after patients are seen
  • Coordinate anesthesia
  • Obtain all necessary medical records, diagnostic studies, pathology items, etc., that are needed for patient care
  • Assist in scheduling new patient appointments by triaging to appropriate department and physician
  • Enter appointment information in online appointment system
  • Coordinate pre-admission tests and procedures
  • Schedule and ensure pre-anesthesia works-ups are completed
  • Coordinate the direct transfer of patients from outside hospitals to UWMC with physicians, medical staff, and Admitting
  • Other assigned duties
