Job summary

Goldman Sachs is seeking a candidate for the M&A Capital Markets team in New York to provide differentiated advice on complex merger matters, including structuring deal solutions, pricing, and market analytics.

You will work with senior bankers to synthesize data into client-ready materials, assess activist and merger arbitrage dynamics, and contribute to analyses that shape client valuations and equity stories across industries.

Qualifications

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with confidence to interact with clients and senior internal leaders.
• Ability to synthesize data into concise client-ready slides, memos, or talking points.
• Demonstrated interest in equity markets, investor behavior, corporate finance, and the broader macroeconomic environment.
• Effective project management skills with ability to prioritize competing projects and deadlines.
• Strong familiarity with company valuation concepts (comparable multiples, DCF, LBO, etc.) and merger math.
• Exceptional quantitative and technical skills, ideally with experience in statistics or data science.

Responsibilities

• Helping senior bankers across Investment Banking advise clients on a diverse set of merger-related matters
• Architecting and negotiating structured deal solutions (such as M&A collars and cash/stock elections) on behalf of clients in live M&A transactions
• Leveraging data to create differentiated insights into the merger and equity markets for use in marketing and advisory assignments
• Performing and presenting analyses on trading patterns related to activism, mergers, and other corporate events, including M&A buyer reactions, merger arbitrage, index fund trading, and activist accumulation
• Interpreting investor sentiment around transactions by synthesizing investor feedback, trading desk color, market data, sell-side research, and third-party commentary
• Analyzing the financial and capital markets impacts of novel transaction structures
• Providing real-time judgments and insight into trading dynamics in leaked, hostile, or contested M&A
• Gauging the impact of acquisitions and separations on pre- and post-closing client valuations and equity stories
• Overseeing, quality-controlling and enhancing the group’s proprietary datasets
