Do the deals you're great at. Leave the grind behind.
Overworked, underappreciated, but still love what you do? You've put in 5+ years of sophisticated deal work. You've negotiated purchase agreements and closed deals on both sides of the table. Now you're at a crossroads. You could grind out the rest of the partner track, take a pay cut to go in-house, or hang your own shingle.
There's another option.
Bosveld Law has deal work that needs a sharp, reliable attorney, and room for you to grow your own clients if you want to. We'll reward you for both. Keep the caliber of the work, get your life back, and keep your upside.
The role
You’ll join Bosveld Law as a remote/hybrid corporate and M&A attorney in Houston. Your core focus is executing the firm’s deals and client matters quickly, precisely and reliably, from the first call to closing. The firm leads business development, so you can focus on the work you do best. If you want to build your own clients, we’ll support you and reward it.
- Work that’s waiting for you. We bring you M&A and business matters from the firm’s clients. You don’t need a book to be busy here.
- Rewarded for value, not just hours. We favor flat-fee and value-based billing for our clients, so we measure your contribution by efficiency and value delivered. The billable hour isn’t gone entirely, but it doesn’t define your worth here.
- Upside without a ceiling. A base salary for stability plus performance incentives. The more value you create, the more you earn.
- Room for your own clients, if you have them. Have a client or two, or referrals your current firm considers too small? Bring them and grow them here. You’ll be rewarded for the business you originate. It’s welcome, but not required.
- Remote/Hybrid work. While this position is Houston (and surrounding) based, work where you do your best work, with a team that covers each other when you take time off.
- Colleagues who raise the bar. Work with experienced transactional attorneys who share strategy and check each other’s work when the stakes are high.
The work
- Lead the deal. Represent buyers and sellers from pre-LOI through closing: diligence, purchase agreements, disclosure schedules and closing deliverables.
- Be the trusted advisor. Serve as outside general counsel on contracts, commercial agreements, strategic relationships and ownership matters, with advice tailored to each client’s business.
- Move with speed and precision. Turn work around efficiently without sacrificing quality.
- Think it through together. Trade strategy with the firm’s other attorneys and be a second set of eyes on the calls that matter.
- Grow a practice of your own, if you choose. Business development isn’t required. If you want to nurture your own clients and referrals, you’ll have the firm’s brand and support behind you.
Requirements
- 5+ years of practice as a corporate / transactional attorney.
- Big Law or sophisticated boutique corporate experience.
- Meaningful M&A experience, including transactions with an enterprise value of at least $30 million. You’ve had a substantive role in negotiating and drafting the core deal documents, beyond diligence support.
- Clients of your own are a plus but not required.
- Ability to work remotely or in a hybrid setup, and the discipline to stay responsive and organized without supervision.
- The confidence to run a deal on your own. You can lead a buy-side or sell-side transaction from LOI to closing without a senior partner over your shoulder.
- License in good standing with the State Bar of Texas.
You’ll thrive here if
- You love the work. You’re not looking to slow down your career. You want to stop sacrificing your life for it.
- You’re efficient and reliable. When work lands on your desk, it moves. People can count on your turnaround.
- You care about the details. You take pride in clean drafting and your redlines are surgical and intentional.
- You advise, not just answer. You ask enough questions to give clients what they need, not only what they asked for.
- You’re independent, not isolated. You make decisions and own them, and you value a sounding board on the big calls.
- You think firm-first. When you weigh a client or a deal, you ask whether it’s right for the firm, not only for you.
- You can say no. To a bad deal, a client who isn’t a fit, or scope creep, when it’s the right call.
Compensation
- Discretionary bonus: based on value and efficiency to the firm.
- Benefits: Health Insurance Stipend, Phone Stipend, & Texas Bar Dues.
This is presented as a W2 position with a base salary plus performance incentives. Attorneys with a larger existing book who prefer a different arrangement are welcome to reach out. See below.
