Job description

Company

At the heart of global supply, Trafigura connects vital resources to power and build the world. Through our Oil & Petroleum Products, Gas and Power, and Metals and Minerals, commercial divisions, we use infrastructure, logistics and financing to connect producers and consumers, using our deep understanding of the markets we serve to make supply more efficient, secure and sustainable.

We are committed to responsible business practices and believe that the supply of energy and raw materials is essential for growth, development and prosperity. We are accelerating our investments in renewable energy, including hydrogen, ammonia and other low-carbon energy technologies required for the transition to a low carbon future. And we work with our stakeholders to improve environmental and social standards, bringing greater trust and transparency to global supply chains.

A career at Trafigura offers a gateway to working on some of the most exciting challenges of a rapidly changing world - from helping to optimise supply chains to developing infrastructure and new markets. In a culture that is founded on openness and energy, our people work as part of a multinational, globally connected team and thrive in a fast-paced environment where they can nurture and commercialise bold ideas. Everyone has a voice and is empowered to collaborate across geographies and disciplines to help shape our business and the wider world. We know the importance and value of diversity in our business and we invest in attracting, developing and retaining talent from all backgrounds.

Founded in 1993, Trafigura is one of the largest independent employee-owned commodities groups in the world with over 13,000 people working in 48 countries. The Trafigura Group owns global multi-metals producer Nyrstar; fuel storage and distribution company Puma Energy; and joint ventures Impala Terminals, a port and logistics provider, and Nala Renewables, investing in wind, solar and battery storage projects.

Main Purpose

We are looking for a candidate at the Associate level, who is capable of both assisting senior team members in the M&A team with respect to the analysis, structuring, negotiation and execution of larger and more complex transactions, growing into a remit of maintaining responsibility for and leading on smaller transactions over time. A secondary role of the Associate will be to provide support to the Operating Asset Division with respect to our existing assets, including business planning, project analysis (capital investment, new business lines / geographies) and strategy.

The M&A team is directly involved across the breadth of operations of the Trafigura group of companies and responsible for investments related to oil and gas, metals and minerals, renewables, power and carbon (in each case, production, processing / refining, trading and distribution); as well as energy and transport infrastructure (including terminals, pipelines, rail and shipping).

The Operating Asset Division is responsible for creating value from existing and new Assets, in service of the Trading Divisions. The Division will optimise use of capital, generate capital growth, maximise cash yield, and develop strong resilience within the portfolios.

The M&A team and Operating Asset Division work closely and are jointly responsible for all material assets owned by Trafigura throughout their lifecycle from identification / origination of new opportunities, acquisiton, performance management and value creation during our ownership and ultimate exit.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

2-4 years of total experience with 2+ years of experience at an investment bank, additional experience post-banking in M&A or investments at a corporate, private equity platform, trading house or physical commodities business would be a bonus.

Strong understanding of one or more of the oil, gas, metals, bulks, infrastructure, power, renewables and energy transition sectors

Ultimately one would be expected to become a \"generalist\" across all areas where Trafigura is operating.

  • Supporting senior M&A team members with respect to transactions encompassing origination, financial analysis, due diligence, negotiation of transaction documents, internal stakeholder management and approvals, execution, signing-to-close and post-completion integration

  • Supporting the Operating Asset Division with respect to our existing assets, including business planning, project analysis and strategy

  • Taking the lead and managing smaller and less complex deals over time (both with business development and M&A)

Competencies

Ability to lead end-to-end transaction management, including screening, evaluation, structuring, internal approvals, negotiation, financing, and execution
