Job description

The Role

Green Thumb Industries is seeking a Mergers & Acquisitions Analyst to join its M&A team. The team is responsible for evaluating and executing acquisitions, investments, partnerships and other strategic opportunities across the business.

The role is well suited for someone who genuinely enjoys finance, investing and M&A and wants the analytical rigor of investment banking or principal investing with greater exposure to decision-making, transaction strategy and operating businesses.

The Analyst will be the most junior member of a lean team but will have broad exposure across the full lifecycle of a transaction-from initial opportunity assessment and valuation through diligence, structuring, negotiation and execution. The Analyst will work directly with senior members of the M&A team, company executives, business leaders, founders and external advisors.

This role is highly analytical but extends well beyond financial modeling. The Analyst will be expected to develop a strong understanding of businesses and markets, identify the issues that matter most to an investment decision, and translate complex information into clear recommendations for senior leadership.

The M&A Analyst is required to be based out of our Chicago HQ 2 days/week.

Why This Role
  • Broad transaction exposure. Work across the full lifecycle of acquisitions and investments rather than focusing on a narrow portion of the process
  • A seat at the table. Work directly with senior executives and participate in the discussions that shape investment and capital allocation decisions
  • Meaningful responsibility early. As part of a lean team, the Analyst will contribute meaningfully from day one and take on increasing ownership as they demonstrate capability
  • Develop as an investor and business thinker. Build on core financial skills while developing judgment around businesses, markets, transaction structures and risk
  • Operate in a dynamic industry. Evaluate opportunities in an evolving sector where regulatory change, market structure and competitive dynamics create complex strategic questions
What You'll Do
  • Evaluate acquisition, investment and strategic opportunities through financial modeling, valuation, market research and business diligence, including analysis of transaction economics, returns, sensitivities and key operating assumptions
  • Analyze target-company financial and operating information and coordinate diligence across internal teams and external advisors to develop an independent view of business performance, key risks and investment considerations
  • Develop perspectives on opportunities and risks and translate analysis into concise recommendations and decision materials for senior leadership and the Board
  • Support transactions throughout the full deal lifecycle, including initial evaluation, diligence, structuring, negotiation, documentation and closing
  • Interact directly with company management teams, founders, investors, bankers, attorneys and other transaction counterparties
  • Conduct market, industry, competitive and public-company analysis to identify trends, risks and potential investment opportunities and communicate relevant insights to leadership
  • Improve the team's analytical tools, processes and use of technology, including AI, to increase the speed and quality of decision-making
What We're Looking For
  • 2-4+ years of experience in investment banking, private equity, corporate development, principal investing or another analytically rigorous finance role
  • Strong financial modeling, valuation and accounting skills, with the ability to turn incomplete or imperfect information into useful analysis
  • Genuine interest in finance, investing and M&A; you enjoy understanding how businesses make money, digging into financial statements and operating data, building models and using quantitative analysis to answer business questions
  • Excellent critical thinking and business judgment; naturally asks questions, challenges assumptions and focuses on what matters
  • Intellectual curiosity and a desire to understand businesses, markets and transaction dynamics-not simply execute assigned analyses
  • Resourceful and self-directed; comfortable taking an ambiguous question, determining how to approach it and driving toward an answer
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple workstreams and produce high-quality work under tight timelines
  • Strong written and verbal communicator who can distill complex analysis into concise, decision-useful conclusions
  • Comfortable working with and developing relationships across levels of an organization, including senior executives
  • High standards for accuracy, professionalism, discretion and integrity
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint
  • Bachelor's degree in finance, economics, accounting, mathematics or a related field

Prior cannabis experience is not required. We are looking for someone who is interested in learning a complex, rapidly evolving industry and developing a deep understanding of its businesses, markets and regulatory environment.

Additional Requirements
  • Must pass all required background checks
  • Must be and remain compliant with applicable legal and company requirements for working in the industry
  • Must possess a valid driver's license
  • Must be at least 21 years of age

The pay range is competitive and based on experience, qualifications, and/or location of the role. Positions may be eligible for a discretionary annual incentive program driven by organization and individual performance.
