LVT I - Cardiology

Position: Licensed Veterinary Technician I

Department: Veterinary Medicine – Cardiology

Location: Athens, GA

Salary: $17.78 - $25.00 per hour (based on experience)

Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8 hour shifts between 7:30am – 6pm

Employment Type: Full Time, FTE 1.0

Responsibilities
  • Perform physical exams, technician appointments, patient restraint.
  • Perform patient sedation, intravenous catheterization, routine laboratory procedures, venipuncture, and indirect blood pressure.
  • Obtain urine via expression, cystocentesis, or catheterization.
  • Administer treatments, drugs, fluids, and medications by oral, parenteral, and injectable routes.
  • Communicate with clients in person, by phone, or e‑mail.
  • Acquire diagnostic ECG tracings, prepare and apply Holter monitors and telemetry.
  • Set up and assist with paracentesis, echocardiogram, electrocardiogram, interventional radiology, electrocardioversion, oxygen cage, and surgical procedures.
  • Review Holter monitor tracings.
  • Assist in euthanasia and emergency resuscitation procedures.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent and valid state licensure.
  • Licensed Veterinary Technician with experience in a surgery‑based hospital setting (preferred).
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment and exhibit attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of advanced medical terminology.
Physical Demands
  • Lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Alternate sitting, standing, stooping, bending, walking on hard floors.
  • Handle small delicate equipment and large heavy objects.
  • Wear protective gear including mask, gloves, gown, hairnet, safety goggles.
  • Work for extended periods with arms extended.
