The University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine is seeking a Licensed Veterinary Technician I for the Ophthalmology service to perform quality medicine, operate advanced equipment, assist examinations, specimen collection, and support anesthesia and surgeries on small and large animals.

Qualifications

Knowledge of general animal anatomy and ability to recognize signs of medical needs in a patient.

Position Summary

As a member of the Ophthalmology service, you will be performing quality medicine at its highest levels and standards while running and maintaining advanced equipment associated with these procedures. Technicians in these positions are essential in the organization of the service and patient care, assisting with examinations, specimen collection, diagnostic procedures, treatments, anesthesia, and surgeries on small and large animals. Will be part of a team training and guiding fourth year veterinary students, interns and residents, as well as veterinary technician students on their path towards a professional career in veterinary medicine.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies

Will work in a fast‑paced environment while demonstrating excellent customer service, high degree of confidentiality, openness to teaching, and providing consultation to a variety of stakeholders. Knowledge of general animal anatomy and ability to recognize signs of medical needs in a patient.

Physical Demands
  • Lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Sit, stand, stoop, bend, and walk intermittently during the day on hard floor surfaces.
  • Use of manual dexterity sufficient to accurately work with small, delicate pieces of equipment or large, heavy objects/containers/machinery.
  • Wearing all protective gear, including mask, gloves, gown, hairnet, safety goggles, etc.
  • Working for long periods of time with arms extended.
