Position Summary

The primary purpose and function of the Licensed Veterinary Technician is to support veterinarians in ensuring quality veterinary care, advocating for pets, and educating clients. For anesthesia, the LVT assists the senior veterinary and veterinary technician students with anesthetic management for a variety of surgical and diagnostic procedures and ensures the successful recovery of post‑anesthesia patients.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist senior veterinary staff with anesthetic management for surgical and diagnostic procedures in both large and small animals.
• Perform and teach competent catheter placement, regional anesthetic nerve blocks, and intubation skills.
• Maintain accurate controlled drug logs and anesthesia patient records.
• Handle controlled substances appropriately and legally.
• Ensure proper charges for anesthesia cases and submit/check lab work and imaging results.
• Support emergency/after‑hours duty on a rotating basis.
• Collect blood, urine, and tissue samples; perform routine laboratory tests and radiology procedures.
• Maintain and care for anesthesia equipment, crash carts, and prep areas.

Physical Demands

• Lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
• Sit, stand, stoop, bend, and walk intermittently during the day on hard floor surfaces.
• Manual dexterity for handling small, delicate pieces of equipment.
• Wear protective gear including mask, gloves, gown, hairnet, and safety goggles.
• Work for long periods with arms extended.
• Handle stressful situations.
• Apply common sense to carry out instructions and solve problems.
