DESCRIPTION

UC San Diego Health is a Magnet-designated organization, a prestigious recognition that applies to only 10% of all U.S. hospitals. Magnet is the "gold standard" for nursing excellence and is based on strengths in five key areas: transformational leadership, structural empowerment, exemplary professional practice, new knowledge, innovation and improvements, and empirical outcomes. UC San Diego Health has held its Magnet status since 2011.

Under the direct supervision of a registered nurse in the Urology clinic, the LVN performs a wide variety of patient care activities to support patient care. Responsibilities include prioritizing and assisting in patient triage, preparing and assisting with urology examinations, administering medications, collecting and preparing laboratory tests, patient education, and assisting with rooming and vital intake when needed. The role requires initiative and the ability to work in a busy urology clinic, prioritizing critical demands and working effectively in a team environment. Additional duties include pre-procedure data collection, assisting physicians and the team during procedures, and supporting post-procedure recovery.

This position, within the scope of California and UCSD practice, administers medications, participates in patient and family education before and after procedures, assists with sterile processing of instruments, and manages room turnover, all in compliance with UCSD MCPs. The job standards are to be performed at an expert level.
