HoustonTransitionalCare is seeking a Nursing Supervisor to provide direct nursing care and oversee nursing assistants, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local standards. The role includes directing daily operations, policy enforcement, and participation in QA and surveys within a long-term care facility.

The incumbent will coordinate shifts, review plans with physicians, and maintain accurate charting, orders, and documentation while ensuring quality resident care and regulatory

Responsibilities

• Direct day-to-day nursing assistant functions per current rules and guidelines.
• Ensure nursing personnel comply with written policies and procedures.
• Review department policies, procedure manuals, and job descriptions; recommend revisions.
• Plan the nursing shifts' services, programs, and activities with staff.
• Maintain the Nursing Service Procedures Manual to reflect daily procedures.
• Participate in the facility's quality assurance program and government inspections.
• Complete admission, transfer, and discharge recordkeeping forms.
• Review treatment plans with attending physicians; receive and transcribe orders.
• Transcribe physician orders to charts and plans; chart nursing notes.
• Fill accident/incident reports and submit to the Director.
• Chart all accident/incident reports following established procedures.
• Record and forward diet orders to Food Services.
• Report discrepancies in orders or diet changes to the Nurse Supervisor.
• Document transfer forms per procedures; ensure discharge documentation accuracy.
• Document unauthorized discharges in resident records; perform routine charting.
• Sign and date all entries in the resident's medical record.
• Prepare and administer medications; verify resident identity.
• Maintain floor stock and order meds/supplies as needed.
• Keep narcotic records accurate; notify Nurse Supervisor of discrepancies.
• Review medication cards for order accuracy; notify physician of stop orders.
• Dispose of drugs per procedures.
• Participate in staff evaluations and scheduling; address staffing with Nurse Supervisor.
• Inform Nurse Supervisor of staffing shortages and absenteeism.
• Evaluate department workforce; develop assignments; provide leadership on unit.
• Make daily rounds of the unit.
