Job summary

Texas Health and Human Services is seeking a licensed vocational nurse (LVN I) for Vernon State Hospital in Vernon, TX. The role supports nursing teams, administers medications, and cares for patients across shifts, including evenings and weekends.

Applicants must hold a Texas LVN license (or reciprocal), may require a temporary permit, and will work under RNs and physicians to deliver quality care. The position includes standard state hospital duties and compliance with HHSC policies.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of nursing care standards, procedures and patient care.
• Knowledge of emergency procedures and emergency equipment (CPR, TIPS).
• Ability to reason and resolve problems; strong communication skills.
• Ability to operate computers and EHR software.
• Ability to provide patient care to diverse individuals with complex needs.
• Must maintain CPR certification and be able to respond to emergencies.

Responsibilities

• Attends regular shifts and may follow rotating or extended schedules.
• Administers medications and treatments per orders.
• Assist RNs, physicians and PAs in patient care and rounds.
• Document treatments and observations in medical records.
• Explain medications and procedures to patients and families.
