The Lunch & Recess/Latchkey Worker is responsible for supervising students during lunch, recess, and before- and/or after-school latchkey programming. This position helps maintain a safe, positive, and orderly environment while supporting student behavior, engagement, and appropriate interactions. The Lunch & Recess/Latchkey Worker works collaboratively with school staff to ensure students are supervised and supported throughout the school day and latchkey program.
Supervise students during lunch, recess, and latchkey programming.
Monitor student behavior and reinforce school expectations and rules.
Ensure students remain in designated areas and follow safety procedures.
Assist students with questions, needs, and appropriate problem‑solving.
Support positive social interactions and encourage respectful behavior.
Monitor student arrival, dismissal, and transitions as assigned.
Lead or assist with age‑appropriate activities during latchkey programming.
Assist students with homework, reading, games, crafts, or other activities during latchkey hours, as appropriate.
Maintain a safe, clean, and organized environment.
Address minor behavioral concerns and report significant concerns to appropriate school staff.
Follow school safety procedures and emergency protocols.
Communicate student concerns and relevant information to teachers or school leadership.
Maintain confidentiality of student and school information.
Work cooperatively with teachers, administrators, and other school staff.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Ability to actively supervise and monitor multiple students.
Ability to recognize and respond appropriately to safety and behavioral concerns.
Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with students and staff.
Ability to remain calm and use sound judgment in various situations.
Ability to follow established school procedures and expectations.
Ability to adapt to the needs of students and changing activities.
Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
Ability to move throughout the school, playground, lunchroom, and latchkey areas.
Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, and reach as needed when working with students.
Ability to occasionally lift or carry materials weighing up to 25 pounds.
Ability to respond quickly to student safety and supervision needs.

High school diploma or equivalent required.
Previous experience working with children or in a school or childcare setting preferred.
Experience in a latchkey, before/after‑school, childcare, or youth program preferred.
Ability to effectively supervise and interact with students.

Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
