Job Title: Lumber Order Puller

Reports to: Operations Manager

FLSA Status: Hourly, Non-Exempt

Summary

The Order Puller is responsible for accurately selecting, staging, and preparing building materials for customer pickups and company deliveries. This role operates in both lumberyard and warehouse environments and includes assisting customers with loading materials, maintaining a clean work area, and supporting inventory restocking. This is a physically active position performed primarily outdoors and may require operating forklifts and other material handling equipment (training provided). The ideal candidate is a team player with strong attention to detail, a customer-focused attitude, and the ability to perform in a fast-paced environment. Start time is 6:30 AM, with shifts lasting until all orders are completed for next-day delivery.

THIS POSITION REQUIRES PHYSICAL ACTIVITY IN AN OUTDOORS ENVIRONMENT.

Job Duties
  • Operate propane or diesel-powered forklifts safely and professionally, in accordance with company policies and OSHA standards (training provided).
  • Accurately pull and stage customer and delivery orders, ensuring correct product identification and ticket labeling.
  • Load lumber packages and building materials onto customer vehicles and delivery trucks, manually or with forklift assistance.
  • Perform daily equipment checks and report any malfunctions to the Supervisor.
  • Replenish stock as deliveries arrive throughout the day, maintaining proper product placement.
  • Interact with customers in a courteous and professional manner while assisting with loading.
  • Verify loads against picking tickets or credit memos for accuracy.
  • Lift, carry, and move materials weighing up to 100 lbs regularly and safely.
  • Maintain clean and organized work areas, including participation in routine housekeeping tasks.
  • Attend all required safety meetings and follow company safety protocols.
  • Report any defects or safety issues immediately.
  • Notify Supervisor when items are out of stock or substitutions are needed.
  • Identify and differentiate various grades, sizes, brands, and types of lumber, plywood, hardware, and bagged goods.
  • Apply basic math skills, including multiplication and division, for material counts and measurements.
  • Follow all written and verbal company policies, procedures, and expectations.
  • Perform additional tasks or responsibilities as assigned
Qualifications & Requirements
  • Be reliable and have a good positive attitude towards customers and other team members
  • Ability to be a team player
  • Follow and comply with all company policies, procedure and or guidelines
  • Must comply with all OSHA regulations, procedures, and guidelines
  • Must be able to work from 5am – 6pm, up to 6 days per week as dependent on volume
  • Must be able to work outdoors in any weather condition
  • Building material knowledge is a plus
  • Must be able to read a tape measure
  • Forklift Certification preferred; not required
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos
  • Ability to write simple correspondence
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed, but uninvolved, written or oral instructions
Education/Experience

High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED); or equivalent combination of education and experience.
