Job summary

UFP Industries seeks a lumber grading professional to join our on-site manufacturing team. You will grade and sort softwood SPF and SYP, label and tag materials, and assist with moving and stacking operations in a structured production environment.

Exact responsibilities include adhering to third-party inspection requirements, maintaining inventory accuracy, and participating in safety and continuous improvement programs. This role requires at least 18 years old and prefer basic math proficiency.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Certification in lumber grading preferred, but non-certified graders may be considered if in training.
  • No minimum experience required, but manufacturing or lumber experience preferred.
  • 3–5 years of lumber grading experience preferred.
  • Working knowledge of basic math preferred.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.

Responsibilities

  • Grade and sort softwood SPF and SYP per third-party inspection requirements.
  • Move and secure lumber products and materials per instructions.
  • Stack finished products per bundle sizes or customer requirements.
  • Label material by type, size and count per specifications.
  • Apply tags to material before/after treating/production.
  • Use staple gun and troubleshoot equipment.
  • Band, bundle and secure material including corner protectors and loading sticks.
  • Follow stacking instructions per policy and customer requirements.
  • Ensure correct quantities and material are strapped and labeled before leaving the area.
  • Maintain accurate inventory of tags and report discrepancies.
  • Record production on production sheets.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Assist other areas with moving material and loading/unloading carts.
  • Participate in safety, CI and other programs and meetings.

Principle Duties And Responsibilities
  • Grades and sorts of softwood SPF and SYP in accordance with third party TP / SPIB inspection requirements
  • Moves and secures lumber products and other materials according to instructions
  • Stacks finished products according to predetermine bundle sizes and/or customer requirements
  • Labels material based on type, size and count, and following specifications
  • Applies individual tags to material before/after treating/production
  • Uses a staple gun and troubleshoots equipment
  • Bands, bundles and secures material, including attaching corner protectors and loading sticks
  • Follows instructions for stacking material properly and according to company policy and customer requirements
  • Ensures correct quantities and material are strapped, labeled before leaving the work area
  • Maintains accurate inventory of tags and reports any problems or discrepancies to supervisor
  • Records production on production sheets
  • Maintains a clean and organized work area
  • Assist other work areas moving material, loading and unloading material carts
  • Participates in safety, CI and other programs and meetings
Qualifications
  • High school diploma/GED is preferred but not required.
  • Certification in lumber grading preferred, however non-certified graders will be considered if already in process of training and can be certified
  • No minimum experience is required, but manufacturing or lumber experience is preferred
  • 3-5 years of related experience in lumber grading is preferred
  • Working knowledge of basic math preferred
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
