Job summary

UFP Industries, Inc. in Selma, AL is seeking a Lumber Grader to join our manufacturing team.

This role relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines under close supervision to grade and sort softwood SPF and SYP according to inspection requirements. You'll move, label and bundle lumber, maintain accurate inventory, assist with loading/unloading, and participate in safety and continuous improvement programs.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma/GED is preferred but not required.
  • Certification in lumber grading preferred, however non-certified graders will be considered if already in process of training and can be certified
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.

Responsibilities

  • Grade and sort softwood SPF and SYP per TP/SPIB inspection requirements.
  • Move and secure lumber products and other materials per instructions.
  • Stack finished products to predetermined bundle sizes and/or customer requirements.
  • Label material by type, size and count per specifications.
  • Apply tags to material before/after treating/production.
  • Use a staple gun and troubleshoot equipment.
  • Band, bundle and secure material with corner protectors and loading sticks.
  • Follow stacking instructions per policy and customer requirements.
  • Ensure correct quantities and material are strapped, labeled before leaving the work area.
  • Maintain accurate inventory of tags and report discrepancies to supervisor.
  • Record production on production sheets.
  • Keep work area clean and organized.
  • Assist other areas with moving material, loading and unloading material carts.
  • Participate in safety, CI and other programs and meetings.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities

Grades and sorts of softwood SPF and SYP in accordance with third party TP / SPIB inspection requirements Moves and secures lumber products and other materials according to instructions Stacks finished products according to predetermine bundle sizes and/or customer requirements Labels material based on type, size and count, and following specifications Applies individual tags to material before/after treating/production Uses a staple gun and troubleshoots equipment Bands, bundles and secures material, including attaching corner protectors and loading sticks Follows instructions for stacking material properly and according to company policy and customer requirements Ensures correct quantities and material are strapped, labeled before leaving the work area Maintains accurate inventory of tags and reports any problems or discrepancies to supervisor Records production on production sheets Maintains a clean and organized work area Assist other work areas moving material, loading and unloading material carts Participates in safety, CI and other programs and meetings

Qualifications

High school diploma/GED is preferred but not required. Certification in lumber grading preferred, however non-certified graders will be considered if already in process of training and can be certified No minimum experience is required, but manufacturing or lumber experience is preferred 3-5 years of related experience in lumber grading is preferred Working knowledge of basic math preferred Must be at least 18 years of age.
