Job summary

UFP Industries in Selma, AL is seeking a lumber grader to join our manufacturing team. The role involves grading and sorting SPF and SYP lumber to TP / SPIB specifications, moving and stacking products, labeling by type, size and count, and ensuring accurate tagging before leaving the work area.

Strong math skills, willingness to learn, and 18+ years old. No heavy experience required, but manufacturing or lumber familiarity is preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma/GED is preferred but not required.
• Certification in lumber grading preferred, however non-certified graders will be considered if already in process of training and can be certified
• 3-5 years of related experience in lumber grading is preferred

Responsibilities

• Grades and sorts softwood SPF and SYP in accordance with TP / SPIB inspection requirements.
• Moves and secures lumber products and other materials according to instructions.
• Stacks finished products according to predetermine bundle sizes and/or customer requirements.
• Labels material based on type, size and count, and following specifications.
• Applies individual tags to material before/after treating/production.
• Uses a staple gun and troubleshoots equipment.
• Bands, bundles and secures material, including attaching corner protectors and loading sticks.
• Follows instructions for stacking material properly and according to company policy and customer requirements.
• Ensures correct quantities and material are strapped, labeled before leaving the work area.
• Maintains accurate inventory of tags and reports any problems or discrepancies to supervisor.
• Records production on production sheets.
• Maintains a clean and organized work area.
• Assist other work areas moving material, loading and unloading material carts.
• Participates in safety, CI and other programs and meetings
