Job summary

Indiana University Health System in Muncie, IN seeks an LPN to join our surgical support team. You will prepare sterile field, hand instruments, and assist during procedures, maintaining sterile technique and collaborating with the healthcare team.

Requires graduation from an accredited LPN program, active IN or NLC license, and BLS certification; orientation completion is required. 1–2 years of experience is preferred.

Qualifications

• Graduation from a nationally accredited licensed practical nursing program.
• Active Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license in Indiana or a Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) LPN license.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association.
• Successful orientation completion.
• 1–2 years of relevant experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and set up the sterile field.
• Organize and ensure availability of surgical instruments and supplies.
• Pass instruments, sutures, and supplies to the surgeon during procedures.
• Maintain sterile technique throughout the surgery.
• Perform instrument, sponge, and sharps counts with the circulating nurse.
• Assist with room turnover and preparation for the next case.

Knows and uses the nursing process in planning, implementing, and evaluating nursing care to individual patients. Collaborates with other members of the healthcare team. Evaluates response to interventions and patient status toward goal achievement. Accepts delegated nursing measures for which he or she knows he or she is prepared, qualified and licensed to perform.

• Requires graduation from a nationally accredited licensed practical nursing program.
• Requires an active Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license in the state of Indiana or an active Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) LPN license.
• Requires Basic Life Support certification through the AHA. Other advanced life support certifications may be required per unit/department specialty according to patient care policies.
• Successful completion of orientation required.
• 1-2 years of relevant experience preferred.
