Job summary

Indiana University Health System in Indianapolis seeks an experienced Licensed Practical Nurse to join our surgical team. The role supports the operating room before, during, and after procedures, ensuring equipment and supplies are available and sterile, and assisting the surgeon as needed.

This full-time, day-shift position offers weekday hours with no weekends or holidays. Requires completion of an accredited LPN program, Indiana LPN license, and BLS certification; 1–2 years of experience

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited LPN program.
• Active Indiana LPN license or NLC LPN license.
• BLS certification (AHA) required; other advanced life support may be required per unit.
• Successful completion of orientation required.
• 1–2 years of relevant experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Rooming patients.
• Taking vitals.
• Prior authorizations.
• Assisting with biopsies/pathology/in clinic procedures.

Education

Graduation from an accredited LPN program

Description

Licensed Practical Nurses provide service and support before, during and after surgical services. Assists in ensuring the presence and proper arrangement of surgical equipment, supplies, and instrumentation in the operating room prior to each operation. Provides assistance to the surgeon in the operating room as allowed by professional and legal standards. Assists in turnover of the operating room after the procedure ensuring proper routing and/or processing of all specimens, equipment, instrumentation and supplies. Works as a member of the surgical team with surgeons, anesthesiologists, registered nurses, and other surgical personnel.

Qualifications

• Requires graduation from a nationally accredited licensed practical nursing program.
• Requires an active Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license in the state of Indiana or an active Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) LPN license.
• Requires Basic Life Support certification through the AHA. Other advanced life support certifications may be required per unit/department specialty according to patient care policies.
• Successful completion of orientation required.
• 1-2 years of relevant experience preferred.
