Job summary

UAB Medicine is seeking a Licensed Practical Nurse for a full-time PM shift. You will provide nursing care per standards, orient patients, collect assessments, and document care while acting as a patient advocate. Mobility between units may be required to support the team.

The role requires LPN licensure in Alabama, BLS certification, and possible ACLS/PALS depending on unit. A $5,000 sign-on bonus may be available for eligible full-time new hires.

Qualifications

• Graduate from an accredited Practical Nursing Program or equivalent required.
• Currently licensed or licensed by endorsement as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) by the Alabama Board of Nursing required.
• Certified in Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association (AHA) is required or should be obtained within 30 days of employment.
• Depending on the unit/department, Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and/or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) may be required.

Responsibilities

• Provide nursing care based on the nursing process and UAB standards.
• Orient patients and family members to the surrounding environment and act as a patient advocate.
• Collect patient assessment data and notify RN of potential problems.
• Evaluate patient response to care and document delivery of care.
• Respond effectively to emergencies and support the care team.

Job Highlights

The Hospitalist/Acute Care for Elders (ACE) 2 Unit or "Highlands 4 North" is a 23-bed acute care unit located at UAB Hospital-Highlands that provides care to post-surgical patients, as well as those transferred from the emergency department, ICU, or admitted from a physician office. This unit also provides care to some geriatric patients transferred from the ACE Unit. The ACE Unit is the very first of its kind in Alabama and is nationally recognized for addressing the health care needs of geriatric patients. UAB Hospital-Highlands combines the feel of a community hospital - including neighborhood location - with the same expertise and technology available at our flagship facility.

Job Description

Under general supervision, to provide nursing care to patients based on the nursing process, UAB Hospital Standards of Nursing Care, and UAB Hospital policies and procedures while ensuring quality of care. To orient patients and family members to surrounding environment, acting as a patient advocate. To collect patient assessment data and notify RN of potential problems. To evaluate patient s response to care and report findings to RN, document delivery of patient care, effectively respond to emergency situations, demonstrate positive interpersonal skills, meet patient s educational needs, and serve as a role model to other members of the patient care team.

Qualifications

Graduate from an accredited Practical Nursing Program or equivalent required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement. Currently licensed or licensed by endorsement as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) by the Alabama Board of Nursing required. Certified in Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association (AHA) is required or should be obtained within 30 days of employment. Depending on the unit/department, Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification and/or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) from the American Heart Association (AHA) may be required.
