Job summary

OU Health in Oklahoma City is seeking an LPN for the Pulmonology Clinic. Under general supervision, you will provide preventative care and health services to an assigned group of patients within OU Health facilities.

The role emphasizes nursing assessment, data collection, vital signs, oxygen therapy, ostomy and feeding support, and collaboration with the care team. An LPN may serve as a Surgical Tech in the OR when needed; licensure and BLS are required.

Qualifications

• HS Diploma or GED required
• Completion of education requirements for NCLEX-PN examination
• Current Basic Life Support certification required upon hire
• Current LPN License issued by OK State Board of Nursing or multi-state (eNLC) license required

Responsibilities

• Assists with nursing assessment through data collection, observation, and vital signs.
• Provides care according to an established nursing plan.
• Observes changes in patient condition and notifies supervisory personnel.
• Performs ostomy care, NG tube placement/feeding, oxygen therapy as ordered.
• Suction and clean tracheotomy sites.
• Administers medications via oral, IV, IM, ID, subcutaneous, vaginal, rectal, and topical routes as ordered.
• Prepares patients for routine exams and assists physician.
• LPN may function as Surgical Tech if OR position is available.

General Summary

Essential Responsibilities

• Assistswith the nursing assessment through data collection, observation, and obtainment of vital signs on assigned patients or clients.

• Providescare according to an established nursing plan.

• Observeschanges inpatient’scondition and notify supervisory personnel if significant changes occur.

• Providesroutine ostomy care, nasogastric tube placement and feeding and placement,anddiscontinuingoforal-gastrictube.Initiatesand monitorsoxygen therapy according to physician orders or unitprotocol.

• Suctionsand cleanstracheotomy sites.

• May administer oral, intravenous, intra-muscular, intra-dermal, subcutaneous, sub-lingual, vaginal, rectal,and topical medications.

• Preparespatients for routine physical examinations andassistthe physician during examinations.

• An LPN can function in the role of Surgical Tech if position open is in the operating room.

License/Certification/Registration Requirements

• Current Basic Life Support issued by the American Heart Associationrequiredupon hire.

• Current LPN License issued by the Oklahoma State Board of Nursing OR a current multistate LPN License (eNLC)required.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

• Knowledge of professional nursing theories, practices, techniques, and procedures.

• Ability to organize, coordinate, plan, and evaluatenursingneeds of assigned patients.

• Must be knowledgeable aboutoperatingroom techniquesifapplying for a surgery position.

• Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills.
