Job summary

OU Health in Oklahoma City is seeking a Licensed Practical Nurse to support the General Internal Medicine Clinic. You will assist with nursing assessments, monitor vital signs, and provide patient care under supervision in a fast-paced academic clinic.

Responsibilities include routine ostomy and NG tube care, oxygen therapy as ordered, and assisting physicians during examinations. Requires HS Diploma, NCLEX-PN completion, BLS, and an Oklahoma LPN license.

Qualifications

• HS Diploma or GED required.
• Completion of NCLEX-PN exam.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Oklahoma LPN license or valid multistate license (eNLC) required.

Responsibilities

• Assist nursing assessment via data collection and vital signs.
• Provide care per established nursing plan and observe for changes.
• Monitor patient condition and notify supervisor of significant changes.
• Provide routine ostomy care and NG tube placement and feeding as ordered.
• Assist with examinations and support physicians during visits.

General Summary

Under general supervision,providespreventative and health care to an assigned group of patients or clients in the OU Health facility.

Essential Responsibilities

• Assistswith the nursing assessment through data collection, observation, and obtainment of vital signs on assigned patients or clients.
• Providescare according to an established nursing plan.
• Observeschanges inpatient'scondition and notify supervisory personnel if significant changes occur.
• Providesroutine ostomy care, nasogastric tube placement and feeding and placement,anddiscontinuingoforal-gastrictube.Initiatesand monitorsoxygen therapy according to physician orders or unitprotocol.
• Suctionsand cleanstracheotomy sites.
• May administer oral, intravenous, intra-muscular, intra-dermal, subcutaneous, sub-lingual, vaginal, rectal,and topical medications.
• Preparespatients for routine physical examinations andassistthe physician during examinations.
• An LPN can function in the role of Surgical Tech if position open is in the operating room.

GeneralResponsibilities

Education Requirements

• HS Diploma or GEDrequired.
• Completion of education requirements for NCLEX-PN examination.

License/Certification/Registration Requirements

• Current Basic Life Support issued by the American Heart Associationrequiredupon hire.
• Current LPN License issued by the Oklahoma State Board of Nursing OR a current multistate LPN License (eNLC)required.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

• Knowledge of professional nursing theories, practices, techniques, and procedures.
• Ability to organize, coordinate, plan, and evaluatenursingneeds of assigned patients.
• Must be knowledgeable aboutoperatingroom techniquesifapplying for a surgery position.
• Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills.
