Job summary

OU Health is seeking an LPN for the Pulmonology Clinic. Under supervision, you will provide preventative and health care to assigned patients in the OU Health facility, supporting nursing assessments and care plans.

The position requires an HS Diploma or GED, successful NCLEX-PN readiness, and an Oklahoma LPN license (or multistate license). A comprehensive benefits package is offered.

Qualifications

• HS Diploma or GED required.
• Completion of education requirements for NCLEX-PN examination.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) from American Heart Association required.
• Current LPN license in Oklahoma or multistate license (eNLC) required.

Responsibilities

• Assist nursing assessment with data collection and vital signs.
• Provide care according to established nursing plan.
• Monitor patient condition and report significant changes.
• Provide routine ostomy care, NG tube placement/feeding, and conduit as ordered; manage oxygen therapy.
• Suction and clean tracheotomy sites.
• Administer medications via various routes as ordered.
• Prepare patients for exams and assist physicians.
• May serve as Surgical Tech in OR if needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Description

General Summary: Under general supervision, provides preventative and health care to an assigned group of patients or clients in the OU Health facility.

Essential Responsibilities

• Assists with the nursing assessment through data collection, observation, and obtainment of vital signs on assigned patients or clients.
• Provides care according to an established nursing plan.
• Observes changes in patient's condition and notify supervisory personnel if significant changes occur.
• Provides routine ostomy care, nasogastric tube placement and feeding and placement, and discontinuing of oral-gastric tube. Initiates and monitors oxygen therapy according to physician orders or unit protocol.
• Suctions and cleans tracheotomy sites.
• May administer oral, intravenous, intra-muscular, intra-dermal, subcutaneous, sub-lingual, vaginal, rectal, and topical medications.
• Prepares patients for routine physical examinations and assist the physician during examinations.
• An LPN can function in the role of Surgical Tech if position open is in the operating room.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

License/Certification/Registration Requirements

Current Basic Life Support issued by the American Heart Association required upon hire.

Current LPN License issued by the Oklahoma State Board of Nursing OR a current multistate LPN License (eNLC) required.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

• Knowledge of professional nursing theories, practices, techniques, and procedures.
• Ability to organize, coordinate, plan, and evaluate nursing needs of assigned patients.
• Must be knowledgeable about operating room techniques if applying for a surgery position.
• Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills.
