Job summary

OU Health is seeking an LPN for mid-shift PRN duties in the SOKC Emergency Department in Oklahoma City. The role includes nursing assessments, following a care plan, monitoring patient status, and assisting with procedures such as ostomy care and NG tube management.

Requirements include a HS diploma or GED and NCLEX-PN eligibility. BLS certification is commonly required. LPN license in Oklahoma or eNLC is expected. PRN status means flexible scheduling within the South OKC/Freestanding ED setting.

Responsibilities

• Assist with nursing assessment through data collection, observation, and vital signs.
• Provide care according to established nursing plan.
• Observe changes in patient’s condition and notify supervisor if significant changes occur.
• Provide routine ostomy care, NG tube placement/feeding, and related procedures.
• Suction and clean tracheotomy sites.
• Administer medications via various routes as ordered.
• Prepare patients for routine examinations and assist during exams.
• May assist as Surgical Tech if operating room position opens.

Under general supervision, provides preventative and health care to an assigned group of patients or clients in the OU Health facility.

Under general supervision, provides preventative and health care to an assigned group of patients or clients in the OU Health facility.

Essential Responsibilities

• Assists with the nursing assessment through data collection, observation, and obtainment of vital signs on assigned patients or clients.
• Provide care according to an established nursing plan.
• Observe changes in patient's condition and notify supervisory personnel if significant changes occur.
• Provide routine ostomy care, nasogastric tube placement and feeding and placement, and discontinuing of oral-gastric tube. Initiates and monitor oxygen therapy according to physician orders or unit protocol.
• Suctions and clean tracheotomy sites.
• May administer oral, intravenous, intra-muscular, intra-dermal, subcutaneous, sub-lingual, vaginal, rectal, and topical medications.
• Prepare patients for routine physical examinations and assist the physician during examinations.
• An LPN can function in the role of Surgical Tech if position open is in the operating room.

General Responsibilities

• Performs other duties as assigned.

Education Requirements

• HS Diploma or GED required.
• Completion of education requirements for NCLEX-PN examination.

• No experience required.

License/Certification/Registration Requirements

• Current Basic Life Support issued by the American Heart Association required upon hire.
• Current LPN License issued by the Oklahoma State Board of Nursing OR a current multistate LPN License ( eNLC ) required.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

• Knowledge of professional nursing theories, practices, techniques, and procedures.
• Ability to organize, coordinate, plan, and evaluate nursing needs of assigned patients.
• Must be knowledgeable about operating room techniques if applying for a surgery position.
• Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills.
