Job summary

OU Health is seeking a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) for the Obstetrics/Gynecology Clinic. Under supervision, you will provide preventive care and essential nursing support for an assigned patient group within the OU Health facility.

You will perform nursing assessments, manage vital signs, administer medications, assist with exams, and may serve as a Surgical Tech if the OR position is open. A comprehensive benefits package is offered.

Qualifications

• HS Diploma or GED and NCLEX-PN eligibility.
• No experience required.
• Current Basic Life Support issued by the American Heart Association on hire.
• Current LPN license issued by the state board or multistate license (eNLC).

Responsibilities

• Assist with nursing assessment and vital signs collection.
• Provide care according to established nursing plan.
• Observe and report changes in patient condition to supervisor.
• Provide ostomy care, NG tube placement/feeding/removal.
• Initiate and monitor oxygen therapy per orders.
• Suction and clean tracheotomy sites.
• Administer medications via oral, IV, IM, subcutaneous, or topical routes.
• Prepare patients for examinations and assist the physician.
• LPN can function as Surgical Tech if OR position is open.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Position Title: LPN - Licensed Practical Nurse - OB/GYN

Department: Obstetrics/Gynecology Clinic

Job Description: General Summary Under general supervision, provides preventative and health care to an assigned group of patients or clients in the OU Health facility.

Responsibilities

• Assists with the nursing assessment through data collection, observation, and obtainment of vital signs on assigned patients or clients.
• Provide s care according to an established nursing plan.
• Observe s changes in patient’s condition and notify supervisory personnel if significant changes occur.
• Provide s routine ostomy care, nasogastric tube placement and feeding and placement, and discontinuing of oral-gastric tube.
• Initiates and monitor s oxygen therapy according to physician orders or unit protocol.
• Suctions and clean s tracheotomy sites.
• May administer oral, intravenous, intra-muscular, intra-dermal, subcutaneous, sub-lingual, vaginal, rectal, and topical medications.
• Prepare s patients for routine physical examinations and assist the physician during examinations.
• An LPN can function in the role of Surgical Tech if position open is in the operating room.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Education Requirements

HS Diploma or GED required. Completion of education requirements for NCLEX-PN examination.

No experience required.

License/Certification/Registration Requirements

• Current Basic Life Support issued by the American Heart Association required upon hire.
• Current LPN License issued by the Oklahoma State Board of Nursing or a current multistate LPN License (eNLC) required.

Knowledge /Skills/Abilities

Knowledge of professional nursing theories, practices, techniques, and procedures.

Ability to organize, coordinate, plan, and evaluate nursing needs of assigned patients.

Must be knowledgeable about operating room techniques if applying for a surgery position.

Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills.
