Job summary

Optima Engineering is seeking a Low Voltage Technology Designer to design and develop low voltage systems for commercial, government, university and K-12 projects in the Charlotte area. You will work with multidisciplinary teams to deliver safe, efficient solutions and support project goals.

The role requires 4–5 years in low voltage design, proficiency in Revit and AutoCAD, and strong understanding of NEC/BICSI standards.

Qualifications

  • 4–5 years of experience in low voltage technology system design.
  • Proficiency in Revit and AutoCAD.
  • Strong knowledge of NEC and BICSI standards.
  • Excellent problem-solving and written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate with architects, contractors and teams.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop low voltage electrical systems (telecom, security, AV).
  • Create detailed schematics, drawings and specifications using standard software.
  • Conduct site assessments and tailor solutions to project needs.
  • Perform calculations to ensure compliance with codes and standards.
  • Collaborate with architects, contractors and team members on plans.
  • Review project drawings and provide technical guidance on LV systems.
  • Stay updated on emerging low voltage technologies.

Overview

As a Low Voltage Technology Designer at Optima Engineering, you will be responsible for designing and developing low voltage systems for various commercial, government, university and K-12 projects. You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to create efficient, safe, and innovative solutions for our clients. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work on diverse projects, contribute to cutting-edge designs, and grow your expertise in low voltage technology systems within a dynamic MEP firm.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and develop low voltage electrical systems, including Telecommunications/Structured Cabling, Security and Access Control and Audio/Video Systems.
  • Create detailed electrical schematics, drawings, and specifications using industry-standard software.
  • Conduct site assessments and develop tailored solutions based on project requirements.
  • Perform calculations and analysis to ensure compliance with electrical codes, standards, and industry best practices.
  • Collaborate with architects, contractors, and other team members to develop comprehensive plans.
  • Review project drawings and provide technical guidance on low voltage electrical systems.
  • Stay updated with emerging technologies and industry trends in low voltage system design.
Qualifications
  • 4-5 years of experience in low voltage technology system design.
  • Proficiency in Revit and AutoCAD
  • Strong understanding of electrical codes and standards, particularly NEC and BICSI.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
Preferred Certifications & Education
  • Registered Communications Distribution Designer (RCDD)
  • AVIXA Certified Technology Specialist (CTS)
  • Degree in Electrical Engineering, Engineering Technology, other technical education or equivalent technical experience
