Job summary

bp seeks a Low Carbon Optimizer to optimize carbon emission credits and options within the Low Carbon Trading (LCT) Team, supporting low carbon origination and trading activities.

You will develop speculative strategies by analyzing fundamental and technical data, collaborating with traders and originators to grow cap & trade, biofuel credits, and offsets in a global team with offices in London, Chicago, Houston, Calgary, and Singapore.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required.

• Track record of entrepreneurial PnL delivery through trading and related commercial experience.

Responsibilities

• Build understanding of relevant regulations to ensure BP compliance.
• Collaborate with BP analytics to inform the market view and impact of market developments.
• Generate entrepreneurial profit by taking positions in options, futures, and physical.
• Assess, propose, and prioritize trading strategies delivering commercial value.
• Optimize and manage risk for compliance, speculative and origination activity.
• Ensure risk/reward of trade strategies is analyzed, understood, and communicated.
• Work with team to implement the trade strategy using approved instruments.
• Optimize in a disciplined manner within agreed limits.
• Ensure exposure reports are accurate with timely reconciliation.
• Ensure deal entry metrics align with KPIs.
• Understand and manage transactional risks with required credit limits.
• Build out or improve trading execution tools.
• Back-up other traders on the bench.
• Collaborate with originators to inform price for credits.
• Develop relationships with external market participants.
• Keep abreast of trading processes and bp system of record updates.
• Support origination, business development, and structuring teams.
• Understand cross-commodity correlations and margins.
