Job summary

Cox Automotive is seeking a Porter to coordinate the movement of vehicles through the sales lane, ensuring a smooth flow from the auction to the block and parking areas. You will lead drivers, jump-start operators, and push truck staff, maintaining safety and efficiency while addressing issues on the lot.

The role requires basic mechanical knowledge, a valid driver’s license, and the ability to work outdoors in varying weather.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Valid driver’s license required.
• Able to drive both manual and automatic transmission.
• Basic mechanical knowledge to identify issues such as flat tires or low gas.
• Typically less than 2 years’ experience in a related field.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate and oversee movement of vehicles to maintain a continuous flow through the block.
• Inspect support equipment to ensure proper working order.
• Conduct presale walkthroughs to verify vehicles are in assigned lanes.
• Identify missing vehicles, overflow areas, inoperable vehicles, and other issues.
• Maintain run lists noting vehicles with no keys, late entries, or late number changes.
• Respond to customer and dealer inquiries and concerns.
• Oversee parking of sold and non-sold vehicles and re-parking as needed.
• Report theft, lot damage, or safety concerns to management.

Porter

Coordinates the physical movement of vehicles through the sales lane to the block and parking following auction. Makes and oversees the assignments of drivers, jump start/battery operators and push truck operators in promoting a smooth flow of traffic through the auctioning process.

• Conduct inspection of support equipment for proper working order
• Conduct pre-sale meeting with drivers identifying driver return routes, over flow areas, plan changes, etc.
• Conduct presale walk to ensure vehicles are in assigned lane as scheduled
• Identify and address missing vehicles, overflow areas, inoperable vehicles and other issues
• Maintain the run list indicating vehicles with no keys, late vehicle entries, and/or late number changes
• Respond to customer and dealer inquiries and concerns
• Coordinate and direct vehicle movement to maintain continuous flow of traffic to the block
• Oversee parking sold vehicles and re-parking non-sold vehicles
• Report theft, lot damage, or any safety concerns to management

Minimum

• High School Diploma/GED
• Generally, less than 2 years' experience in a related field
• Safe drivers needed; valid driver's license required.
• Ability to drive standard and automatic transmission vehicles.
• Basic mechanical knowledge of identifying (i.e., flat tires, low gas, jump-starting vehicles.)

Preferred

• 6 months of auction or driving experience preferred.
• Knowledge of lot operations/lot layout preferred.
• Knowledge of LDM preferred.

Physical Requirements

• Required to stand, walk, reach, talk and hear, vision abilities required to include close, distance and color vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
• Ability to stand for prolonged periods of time.
• Ability to lift 1-15 pounds.
• Must be able to walk long distances.

Work Environment

• Constant exposure to outdoor weather conditions. Moderate noise level. (100% outdoors)

USD 15.10 - 22.69 per hour

Compensation:

Hourly pay rate is in the range of $15.10 - $22.69/hour. The hourly base rate may vary within the anticipated range based on factors such as the ultimate location of the position and the selected candidate's knowledge, skills, and abilities. Position may be eligible for additional compensation that may include commission (annual, monthly, etc.) and/or an incentive program.

Benefits:

Employees are eligible to receive a minimum of sixteen hours of paid time off every month and seven paid holidays throughout the calendar year. Employees are also eligible for additional paid time off in the form of bereavement leave, time off to vote, jury duty leave, volunteer time off, military leave, and parental leave.
