Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required; background in mathematics or related field preferred.
• Experience teaching or tutoring mathematics (Math 1-4) strongly preferred.
• Strong classroom management skills and ability to maintain an engaging learning environment.

Responsibilities

• Report to the school office at the start and end of the day for materials and check-in/out.
• Carry out the program of study prescribed in the lesson plans for Math 2.
• Provide instruction in key Math 2 concepts (algebra, geometry, functions, probability, trig).
• Create a classroom environment conducive to learning for high school students preparing for college work.
• Take attendance and maintain orderly classroom management per RTHS policies.
• Set clear expectations for behavior and participation at class start.
• Ensure students are never left unattended in class.
• Perform duties of regular teacher as needed (lunch duty, hall monitoring).

JOB DESCRIPTION

Research Triangle High School is seeking a substitute teacher to provide instruction in Math2 during the absence of the regular classroom teacher. The substitute will support students in continuing rigorous mathematics coursework, helping them stay on track with lesson objectives and final exam preparation.

Mathematics Substitute teachers at RTHS help students to learn subject matter and skills required for scheduled lessons and provide meaningful instruction in the absence of the regular classroom teacher. For this position, the substitute will guide students through Math 2contentaligned with the NC State Standards, ensuring continuity of instruction and classroom engagement.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

• Reports to the school office at the beginning and end of the school day for materials and check-in/out procedures.
• Carries out the program of study prescribed in the teacher's lesson plans, specifically for Math 2.
• Provides instruction in key Math 2 concepts such as algebra, geometry, functions, probability, and trigonometry, using provided resources and plans.
• Creates a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to high school students preparing for college-level work.
• Takes attendance and maintains orderly classroom management aligned with RTHS policies.
• Sets clear expectations for behavior and participation at the start of class.
• Ensures that students are never left unattended in the classroom.
• May perform duties usually assigned to the regular teacher (e.g., lunch duty, hall monitoring).
• Knows emergency evacuation routes and safety procedures.
• Refers disciplinary issues according to school guidelines.
• Performs other related duties as directed by administration.
