Position Overview

Holton-Arms School is seeking a collaborative, adaptable, and passionate Long-Term Substitute: French Teacher to join our dynamic World Languages Department for the 2026-2027 school year. This position will cover Middle School French classes and one Upper School French section for an extended period.

Key Responsibilities

• Teach a full-time French course load, primarily in the Middle School, with one Upper School French section as determined by enrollment, scheduling, and departmental needs.
• Design and facilitate engaging, student-centered learning experiences that develop students' French language proficiency, intercultural competence, and confidence as language learners
• Communicate regularly and effectively with students and parents
• Integrate educational technology thoughtfully and effectively into the curriculum
• Work collaboratively with colleagues in the World Languages Department, Middle School faculty and administrators, and Upper School colleagues as appropriate
• Provide additional support to students outside of class time, as needed, during the school day
• Serve as a Middle School advisor, facilitating regular meetings that promote student well-being, belonging, and personal growth
• Attend regular faculty, departmental, divisional, and professional development meetings
• Participate in supervisory and extracurricular duties, including chaperoning events, monitoring study halls and common areas, and supporting parent and community events
• Contribute actively to the Middle School community through advisory, clubs, student programming, or other opportunities

Qualifications and Experience

• A Bachelor’s degree or higher in Education, French, or a related field; a graduate degree is preferred
• Experience teaching French at the Middle School level; experience teaching French at the Upper School level is a plus
• Ability and willingness to teach students across Middle and Upper School grade levels, as departmental needs require
• Experience working in an independent school and/or all-girls educational environment is preferred
• Understanding of, or interest in developing expertise in, competency-based teaching and learning
• Experience incorporating Social and Emotional Learning, Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Belonging, and Global Competencies into curriculum and classroom practice
• Ability to create an inclusive, engaging, and supportive classroom environment for students with a range of language-learning experiences and proficiency levels
• Commitment to collaboration and continued professional learning
• Coaching experience is desired. Priority Varsity coaching opportunities include Soccer and Lacrosse.

Compensation & Perks

The average hourly range for this position is $33.65 to $48.07, with the exact hourly rate determined based on education and experience. We use a step scale to determine teacher salary. Breakfast and lunch provided on school days.
