Position Overview

Holton-Arms School is seeking a collaborative, adaptable, and passionate French Teacher to join our dynamic World Languages Department for the 2026–2027 school year. This is a full-time, 10-month faculty position based primarily in the Middle School. The teacher will teach a full-time French course load, primarily in the Middle School, and will also teach one section of Upper School French.

The World Languages Department provides students with opportunities to develop their intercultural competence by deepening their language proficiency and global awareness. Students explore diverse cultures and perspectives as part of a supportive and engaging community, learn to be strong collaborators in shared creative work, and develop self-directed learning skills.

Holton-Arms offers a robust World Languages program in Chinese, French, Latin, and Spanish. This position is based in the Middle School, and the teacher will primarily teach French courses in the Middle School while contributing fully to the life of the Middle School community. Depending on student enrollment, scheduling, and departmental needs from year to year, the teaching assignment may also include one section of Upper School French. The ideal candidate will therefore be enthusiastic about teaching Middle School students and comfortable working with Upper School students when needed.

Key Responsibilities
  • Teach a full-time French course load, primarily in the Middle School, with one Upper School French section as determined by enrollment, scheduling, and departmental needs.
  • Design and facilitate engaging, student-centered learning experiences that develop students’ French language proficiency, intercultural competence, and confidence as language learners
  • Communicate regularly and effectively with students and parents
  • Integrate educational technology thoughtfully and effectively into the curriculum
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues in the World Languages Department, Middle School faculty and administrators, and Upper School colleagues as appropriate
  • Provide additional support to students outside of class time, as needed, during the school day
  • Serve as a Middle School advisor, facilitating regular meetings that promote student well-being, belonging, and personal growth
  • Attend regular faculty, departmental, divisional, and professional development meetings
  • Participate in supervisory and extracurricular duties, including chaperoning events, monitoring study halls and common areas, and supporting parent and community events
  • Contribute actively to the Middle School community through advisory, clubs, student programming, or other opportunities
Qualifications and Experience
  • A Bachelor’s degree or higher in Education, French, or a related field; a graduate degree is preferred
  • Experience teaching French at the Middle School level; experience teaching French at the Upper School level is a plus
  • Ability and willingness to teach students across Middle and Upper School grade levels, as departmental needs require
  • Experience working in an independent school and/or all-girls educational environment is preferred
  • Understanding of, or interest in developing expertise in, competency-based teaching and learning
  • Experience incorporating Social and Emotional Learning, Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Belonging, and Global Competencies into curriculum and classroom practice
  • Ability to create an inclusive, engaging, and supportive classroom environment for students with a range of language-learning experiences and proficiency levels
  • Commitment to collaboration and continued professional learning
  • Coaching experience is desired. Priority Varsity coaching opportunities include Soccer and Lacrosse.
