Job summary

Key School is seeking a long-term substitute to teach Maker Technology and Innovation to students ages three through second grade from mid-December 2026 through mid-April 2027. This role reports to the First School Division Head and the Lower School Division Head and aims to provide an age-appropriate, culturally responsive program.

Responsibilities include planning weekly Maker Tech design lessons, bi-weekly coding, collaborating with homeroom teachers, maintaining the innovation lab, and

  • Bachelor’s degree required and teaching credential preferred.
  • Background in STEM, making, or innovation for early childhood/elementary.
  • Experience with inclusive, culturally responsive education and differentiation.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and execute weekly Maker Tech design and creation lessons for ages 3 to 8.
  • Develop bi-weekly introductory coding lessons for First and Second Grade.
  • Collaborate with homeroom teachers to create interdisciplinary projects.
  • Organize and maintain the Innovation Lab and participate in reports and meetings.

Full-time, Faculty Exempt (Temporary)Key School is looking for a long-term substitute to teach Maker Technology and Innovation classes to students ages three through Second Grade from mid-December 2026 through mid-April of 2027.Reporting to the First School Division Head and the Lower School Division Head, the Maker Technology and Innovation teacher provides an age-appropriate, culturally responsive program for early childhood through grade two students.Job Responsibilities:Plan and execute weekly Maker Tech design and creation lessons with students ages three (Pre-School) through eight years old (Second Grade)Plan and execute bi-weekly introductory Coding lessons for students in First and Second GradeWork collaboratively with homeroom teachers and others to develop interdisciplinary design and creation projectsOrganize and maintain an innovation labAttend weekly faculty meetings and scheduled professional development trainingCollaborate with members of the Innovation and Engineering DepartmentParticipate in the Trimester Report writing process.Ideal Candidate:Knowledge of the social, emotional, and academic needs of early childhood aged childrenA creative and innovative educatorBackground in early childhood education, Science, or Innovation field preferredDemonstrates a strong passion for culturally-responsive teaching, experiential learning, and differentiated instructionPromotes and exemplifies the values of Key School’s missionPromotes principles of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging in both classroom practices and amongst all community membersQualifications:Bachelor’s DegreeMinimum 2-5 years teaching experienceSTEM education, making, and/or innovation experience in an early childhood or elementary setting is preferredPhysical Requirements:The demands described here represent those that an employee must meet to perform the essential functions of this job successfully. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.Daily teaching responsibilities and other duties would require candidates to move around a mid-size campus with uneven pavement and manage stairs; frequent walking inside and outside responding to campus issues and/or checking on various departmental progress.Compensation/Benefits:Key School offers competitive salaries and a comprehensive benefits package including health, dental and vision insurance, a generous 403(b) Plan, and much more.The salary range for this position is based on the prorated salary of $47,405-89,005 ($13,193 -$24,770 - prorated) and is derived from several factors that include, but are not limited to, the candidate’s work experience and education.Technical Competencies:All candidates for teaching positions should be familiar with learning management systems such as Seesaw and Google Classroom and have the ability to create and deliver engaging multimedia content using a variety of digital tools. Key is a Google Workspace for Education school. Candidates should be proficient in using Google applications, have a solid understanding of cloud-based storage and file-sharing platforms, and efficiently manage email and scheduling using Gmail and Google Calendar.
