Job summary

Orleans Central Supervisory Union Albany Community School is seeking a Long Term Sub - School Guidance Counselor to support student learning and growth. The counselor will build strong relationships with students and collaborate with our SEL team to implement a comprehensive program.

Job Description

Albany Community School is a rural school with about 80 students enrolled in fifth through eighth grade. We have a beautiful 50 acre campus that includes mountain biking trails with a pump track, a beaver pond for observations, and XC ski trails in the winter. Teachers enjoy using the land to enhance student learning. Our vision is, “We strive to provide an environment where students will develop to their fullest.” We live this by creating meaningful learning opportunities on our school grounds and in the community. We utilize Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS), Restorative Practices, and Responsive Classroom to create a well balanced environment and community for our students.

We are looking for a positive, energetic school counselor to join us in the important work of supporting the learning and growth of all students and staff. They will promote student success, provide preventive services, and respond to identified student needs by implementing a comprehensive program. This includes teaching class lessons, leading small student groups, as well as individualized sessions.

Our LRUEMSD school counselors promote student success, provide preventive services, and respond to identified student needs by implementing a comprehensive school program that includes class lessons, small student groups, and individual sessions. They assist individual students with problems and decisions involved in better understanding themselves and how to succeed academically and socially. They also serve as a resource for parents/guardians, teachers, and other adults involved with the students, and as a member of our collaborative school teams.

COUNSELOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Curriculum
• Collaborates with other educators in the implementation of the curriculum
• Implements developmentally appropriate and prevention-oriented group activities to meet student needs and school goals
• Incorporates into the program the life skills that students need to be successful in the twenty-first century
• Individual Student Planning
• Assists all students, individually or in groups, with developing academic, career and personal/social skills, goals, and plans (including implementing PLPs)
• Accurately and appropriately interprets and utilizes student data
• Collaborates with parents/guardians and educators to assist students with educational, career, and life planning
• Preventive and Responsive Services
• Provides individual and group services to students with identified concerns/needs
• Consults and collaborates effectively with parents/guardians, teachers, administrators, and other educational/community resources
• Implements an effective referral and follow-up process as needed
• System Support
• Coordinates specific programs and/or supports throughout the school community
• Assists teachers, parents/guardians, and other stakeholders in interpreting and understanding student data
• Collaborate with the school team to adequately monitor and support student activities
• Participates in professional learning activities to improve knowledge and skills
• Uses available technology resources to enhance the school counseling program
• Adheres to laws, policies, procedures, and ethical standards of the school counseling profession

The Orleans Central Supervisory Union is comprised of two school districts (Lake Region Union Elementary-Middle School and Lake Region Union High School) supporting three K-4 elementary schools, three 5-8 middle schools, the Orleans Central Early Childhood Program, and Lake Region Union High School.
