Job summary

Frederick County Public Schools is hiring a Long-Term Substitute Special Education Instructional Assistant at Yellow Springs Elementary School for an ASAP start. The role supports students with IEPs under a certified teacher and may include personal care tasks, with daily hours 8:45 AM–4:15 PM and pay at $21.09 per hour.

This non-exempt position requires a high school diploma (GED) with 48 college credits or ParaPro, clear communication, and experience assisting students with disabilities.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED; 48 college credits or ParaPro required for Title One Schools.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly, concisely in both oral and written form.
• Experience working with students with disabilities in an educational setting is preferred.
• Basic proficiency in English language arts: spelling, vocabulary, and mathematics.

Responsibilities

• Supports students under the direction of a Certificated FCPS staff.
• Communicates and documents student progress.
• Sets up and adapts materials, equipment, and assistive devices for use by students as directed.
• Facilitates student progress toward independence.
• Monitors and assists students during educational and recreational activities.
• Assists students with routine physical and/or personal care as needed.
• Monitors and assists students in meeting IEP goals and objectives.
• Carries out emergency action and health care plans as needed.
• Maintains confidentiality of student information.
• Assists with administering, scoring, and recording assessments.
• Works effectively in a team environment.

Education

High school diploma or GED with 48 college credits or ParaPro required for Title One Schools

Clear written and verbal communication

Experience assisting students with disabilities

Knowledge of English spelling vocabulary and mathematics

Experience using Microsoft Office and Google Drive
