Job summary

Sunrise Nursing & Memory Care is seeking a dedicated cook to prepare and serve meals per menu, while adhering to safe food handling practices and regulatory standards. This role requires reviewing menus, assisting with ordering, and maintaining quality and timeliness of meal service.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Two years as cook in a large-scale operation preferred.
• One year of experience in long-term care preferred.

Responsibilities

• Prepares meal items according to planned menus and standardized recipes; refers to supervisor or dietitian for menu changes.
• Reviews menus, census information, production guides, and prep sheets to determine food quantities.
• Prepares food according to safe handling guidelines and state/federal codes.
• Assists with food ordering, storage and preparation; prepares food to preserve quality and serve on time.
• Maintains standards for food preparation and quality; uses substitutes when required; follows recipes.
• Operates kitchen equipment and bakes, roasts, broils, and steams items.
• Completes pre-preparation tasks including washing, peeling, and cutting vegetables and fruits; weighs meat for nutrition accuracy.
• Tests and presents food attractively with gravies, sauces, and garnishes; checks palatability.
• Monitors and records food temperatures prior to service.
• Makes menu changes with supervisor or dietitian approval; uses nutrition substitutes when needed.
• Follows handwashing protocols; stores and labels food properly; changes gloves as required.

Education

Highschool diploma or equivalency

Two years as cook in a large-scale cooking operation

One year’s work experience in long term care
