Requirements

• Active RN License
• Degree from an accredited nursing program
• BLS & ACLS Certifications
• At least eighteen months of recent experience in a Long Term Acute Care setting
• Experience with vents, trachs, drips, EG tubes, and ability to read tele-strips
• Additional requirements as determined by the client facility

Responsibilities

As part of the LTAC unit, Long Term Acute Care Nurses (RN) are responsible for caring for patients requiring extended medical care, including:

• Providing care for 5-6 patients
• Adapting to a fast-paced environment
• Managing admissions and discharges
• Monitoring and administering medications (orally, subcutaneously, and via IV)
• Educating patients and families about surgical processes and illness management
• Monitoring and adjusting specialized equipment and recording electronic data
• Interpreting telemetry readings and notifying medical teams of irregularities
• Caring for patients with pulmonary HTN, respiratory failure, COPD, CHF, and A-Fib
• Using computer systems to monitor vital signs
• Starting IVs, drawing blood, and providing comprehensive patient care
