Job Description

We are currently seeking Logistics Specialist to become part of the Ulbrich Precision Alloys team located in New Bedford, MA. Ulbrich Precision Alloys is a global producer of high-performance materials and solutions for a variety of markets. We partner with our customers to deliver extraordinary materials that enable our customers to reach new heights with their demanding applications.

The Logistics Specialist will be responsible for coordinating and overseeing activities associated with the documentation, scheduling, preparation and shipment of outgoing products, materials and other items. Perform verification of incoming freight, completion and retention of related documentation. Perform ongoing analysis of transportation and distribution procedures in order to maximize delivery efficiency and cost effectiveness. Remain current on related regulations affecting foreign and domestic distribution and shipping efforts.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Research, identify, and maintain ongoing record of available commercial shipping and international transportation service providers.
  • Negotiate freight cost with selected carriers to maximize savings.
  • Research alternative transportation modes and obtain competitive quote for shipping requirements. Prepare recommendation regarding carrier and distribution method based on specified delivery and cost parameters,
  • Track and monitor efficiency of current freight carriers and practices. Analyze associated cost and delivery statistics. Recommend modifications in vendors and/or practices to maximize delivery service and cost savings.
  • Collaborate with purchasing by obtaining competitive quotations for delivery services.
  • Recommend operations as to the recommended distribution mode that aligns with desired delivery and cost parameters.
  • Coordinate, investigate, research and resolve customer complaints regarding, lost, incomplete or delayed shipments. Track, trace, and expedite lost or delayed shipments as necessary.
  • Escalate to manager any issues of a nature that may impact timely receipt of product by customer.
  • Receive, process, and maintain records related to freight claims and rebates.
  • Research and remain current transportation regulations.
  • Advise shipping and operational staff regarding regulations impacting distribution efforts and product delivery.
  • Prepare statistical freight cost analysis and related reports for leadership team.
  • Track, maintain and prepare monthly distribution activity report by product, distribution method, and other statistically relevant factors.
  • Ensure compliance with all quality system procedures and requirements as documented in the Company’s Quality System and as pertain to area of functional responsibility.
  • Review certifications to verify compliance of order/specification requirements for both UNE and USSM orders.
  • Correct part file if order/specification requirements are inaccurate.
  • Coordinate with other departments if Certification is incomplete in system.
  • Gathers data from various resources to be sent with the certification packet to the customer.
  • Performs detailed laboratory data entry for certifications in a timely manner, including the review of data in order to verify compliance with order/specification requirements. Confirm customer required data is recorded, including but not limited to specification charts, vendor certifications, outside testing reports to be compiled and sent to customer.
  • Regular attendance at work is required.

Qualifications

  • Associates degree or equivalent plus a minimum of 7 years of experience within the field of domestic/international logistics/shipping operations.
  • In depth knowledge of the distribution process in its entirely in a manufacturing company.
  • In depth knowledge of commercial and public distribution and shipping modes.
  • In depth knowledge of distribution related regulations.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite software applications such as Excel and Word.
  • Demonstrated project planning and follow through skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to efficiently balance concurrent and changing priorities.
  • Demonstrated resolution and result oriented focus.
  • Superior verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
