Job summary

Appalachian Mountain Club in Greenville, ME seeks a Lodge Cook to prepare meals for guests at a remote wilderness lodge during the winter season. Travel to lodges by lodge truck or snowmobile; meet planned menus and dietary needs while living on site.

Responsibilities include kitchen sanitation, service setup, guest interaction, and weekly deep cleaning. Must be 18+, team oriented, and customer-focused; prior food service is preferred.

Qualifications

  • 18 years and older.
  • Experience in camp operations, hospitality or outdoors preferred.
  • Exceptional customer service skills.

  • Work independently to prepare all meals and snacks as scheduled and instructed.
  • Meet Maine Health Codes and Standards with a clean and organized kitchen.
  • Provide alternatives for guests with dietary restrictions and assist with set-up, delivery, and clean-up.
  • Interact with guests regarding lodge amenities and programs.
  • Participate in deep cleaning of the lodge and other areas weekly/monthly.

Travel to and from the lodges will typically involve a combination of lodge trucks and snowmobiles; two of the three lodges are accessible by snowmobile only in winter. Come prepared with appropriate winter clothing and gear.Work independently to prepare all meals and snacks as scheduled and instructed according to pre-planned menus and established meal times.Provide alternatives for guests with dietary restrictions.Meet Maine Health Codes and Standards by always maintaining a clean and organized kitchen, dry-storage, refrigerator, and freezers.Implement energy conservation and environmentally sound practices in daily operationsAssist with the set-up, delivery, and clean-up of meal servicesAssist guests and visitors in a positive manner.Respond to any problems or special requests with a professional demeanor.Interact with guests regarding local information, lodge amenities, organizational efforts and programs.Participate in deep cleaning of the lodge and other areas on a weekly/monthly basis or as instructed.Perform other duties as assigned.What AMC is looking for:18 years and older.Enthusiasm for living communally.Past experience in camp operations, hospitality and/or work in the outdoors is preferred.Exceptional public service skills and a commitment to the mission of the Appalachian Mountain Club.Exceptional customer service skills.Prior food service experience is preferred but not necessary.Success in performing a wide range assigned tasks.Must be a team player, detail oriented, well organized, highly flexible, adaptable, and resourceful.Physical abilities needed: AMC kitchens are physically demanding environments. This position requires the ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds at the Lodge and in the backcountry; stand and/or walk for the duration of a 10-hour shift, including on uneven terrain; safely navigate stairs on a regular basis; operate kitchen and maintenance equipment; and travel safely in the backcountry in all weather conditions.What AMC Can Offer YouSalary range: $16.34We are committed to fair compensation practices, and we encourage qualified candidates to apply.
